4Runner Won't Start

I have a 1998 4Runner 2WD SR5 that I am getting ready for my 16 year old son to start driving. I hit a deer a couple of years ago and with a high deductible, I didn't turn it in on insurance. We are working together to get the T4R back in shape so he'll have something to drive. The T4R had set for a while and the battery was dead. We jumped it off and it started and ran pretty well for sitting for so long. I drove it around the block in the sub division and then parked it back in the drive way and let it run for a while. I shut it off and it hasn't even made a sound since. We tried to jump it off again with no luck. I put a known good battery in it with no luck either. With a hot battery in the truck all the outside electrical works, headlights, brake lights etc... Nothing works inside, no interior lights, radio, etc... Nothing works inside and everything works outside. I replaced the large fuse in the interior fuse panel and have tried to disable the factory alarm. I cannot disable the factory alarm due to there being no power in side the truck. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Checked fuses under the hood?

If it is an auto make sure you have it in park(P). Sounds stupid, but I've done it before and it had me completely mystified...:redbrick:

It is an automatic and I have made sure it was in PARK. I have done that myself before so I did check that. I believe it may be a fuse or something to do with the security system. I am not sure which fuse could have this effect to the interior electronics in the fuse block under the hood. One thing I do recall happening one of the times we tried to jump start it after that first time it started was the horn repeatedly going off like an alarm. I believe my son may have disconnected the horn though as he was trying to replace the different fuses inside the cab.

Under the hood in the engine compartment on the drivers side there is a fuse box.

Look at the high amp fuses 30,40,50 amp ones and see if one of them are blown

Does it still crank over, just not fire up? Or does is not even try to crank? On a side note, if it sat for a couple of years, the gas has probably started to turn into varnish unless you stabilized the fuel before it was stored. I would recommend syphoning the fuel out of the tank, fill it with fresh gas and hope it didn't gum up in your fuel lines. I would replace the fuel filter for sure too. Your issue sounds electrical as to why it won't start (since the electrical inside isn't working), but running 2 year old gas can cause more issues.

No, it won't crank over. You're right about the gas and I added a couple of gallons of fresh gas before we started trying to get it running as it was almost out of gas when I parked it. I will test the fuses under the hood this weekend. Hopefully one blew while we were trying to jump it off.

Are your windows and locks dead, too? If so, prime suspect is the 50AMP under the hood labelled "J/B". That feeds all the key on stuff in the junction box inside by the driver's left knee. Don't jump with a known dead batt, you might blow yourself up (or at least the bat and a hunk of the car.) Hydrogen explosions are not pretty--see Hindenberg, Zeppelin.
