4runnerlaw's build

To gain better image quality on the backup camera did you replace the camera, head unit or both? The stock head unit image quality is pretty lame. Build looking good. Thanks Tom

I didn’t change anything with the backup camera, I’m using the stock head unit.

Been a little while since I posted, I’ve since installed 5k HIDs from Xenon Depot and adjusted the headlight aim.

Installed a 1/2” top hat spacer up front for 1” of lift for a more leveled look while I continue saving for King Coilovers.

Purchased SCS Stealth 6 wheels, swapped over my 275 KO2s. I had to do the fender liner mod and trim the bottom of the front bumper and remove the front mud flaps. No rubbing - when I go to 285’s I’ll definitely need to do a body mount chop with the backspace on these wheels.

Tapatalk App isn't working to upload pics right now so posting from google photos took me a bit longer...

Here are some shots with the new wheels...tires are the same 275 KO2's I've had on from day 1.

Pulled the trigger. :sniper:

Ordered King Coilovers and rear shocks from Filthy -
Went extended, with ext reservoirs & adjusters. 550lb Springs up front (I don't have extra weight) and custom ext rear shocks.
I have 2" ICON springs for the rear. I'm going to add a 1/4" top hat spacer up front for 1/2" lift to prevent having to crank down a ton of preload to level it out. Planning on 5 and 7 threads showing for 2.5" of lift on the kings...this will give me a full 3" up front and with the 2" ICONs in the rear I should be pretty level.

Also picked up Firestone 4107 airbags for extra load, pro comp boots to protect the rear shafts from pitting on NC highways, and FJ Toyman Shock Guards.

I'll be doing a body mount chop, painting calipers with Red Ceramic paint during the install, and then throwing on 285/70 17 KO2's.

Now it's a waiting game for Kings to arrive...here's how she sits currently -

Finally getting a chance to post since I installed my lift two weeks ago. I have 1/4” top hat spacers and set my coil overs at 4 threads driver and 5 threads passenger, I may add 1-2 more threads next week for a more level look.

Very happy with this setup, I spent a day at Uwharrie last week and hit all the easy & moderate trails. It performed amazingly well, surprising what I was able to crawl up and over.

I have the 550lb springs up front and Icon 2” in the rear, I’m at 3.5 & 3.6 caster with the icon delta joint UCAs and it rides/handles great!

These shots are all with some worn 275 KO2s, I have just a small amount of rub on my driver mudflap in reverse due to my backspace on the SCS wheels. Previously I took a heat gun to the front mud flaps and pushed them back, I’ve also done the liner mod and trimmed the front bumper back.

Tomorrow I’m installing 285/70-17 KO2 load E onto my spare wheel, I’m going to see what I need to cut to fit them, hope to get the set installed next week. I expect to remove front mud flaps and prepared for a body mount chop if needed.

Installed a 1” diff drop kit from dobinson which required a drop on my skid plates. With the drop the trd skid doesn’t clear my kdss sway bar so instead of further hacking up my skid plates I chose to remove the drop kit. Let me know if you want the kit, it includes spacers for skids and front diff. I prefer the extra clearance.

Installed a TRD intake. This thing is loud and at full throttle under load it was vibrating the hell out of the inner fender it passes through. I used some rubber weather stripping for a nice tight fit and it fixed all the extra vibes. Now it just sounds clean and throaty. Seems I improved .8 MPG with this kit, 15.2 prior to intake without lift...16 with TRD intake without lift, dropped to 15.8 with lift. Install was straight forward.

Picked up a remote start from Accessoride -> Wow this thing is well worth the money not a single wire to tap, 100% plug and play via 3 harnesses. Uses the factory keyfob and I also ordered the cellular option.

I have put in time on remote starts when you tapped every wire and run a ton of cables, over time having a connection fail after a couple years and then spending time to diagnose and fix it, routing wires, upside down laying under the dash for a few hours...this is not that. It takes 20 minutes to install 5 minutes to program. I spent another 10 minutes setting up the cellular app (it’s a bit slow but to be expected) and 15 minutes finding the right place for the module, ensuring cables were out of the way. An hour and this thing is buttoned up, tested, and done.

Well worth the purchase hope it lasts. Added bonus the mobile app gives you a readout on your battery voltage.

Fitting 285 70 17s, I had the spare done so I can determine if I will chop the body mount and if I need any other fitment adjustments. I already pushed the front fender liner forward and heated and flattened out front flaps for 275’s but after my lift the driver side rubbed at full lock so I’ve removed them now.

Tomorrow I’ll test fit and Monday if I have to cut the body mount I will. Tires get installed Monday afternoon.

Pic is deceiving but I can’t wait to go up a size.

I just realized that they installed the “DT” version on my spare and it’s missing the 3 peak mountain symbol. I ordered the original, hopefully the set is correct when I go to pick them up today.

<update> Luckily they ordered the correct version so they had 5 Load E non-DT's in stock and swapped them all out for me.

Body Mount Chop complete...will find a shop to weld the steel back in place. I used Metal Tech BMC kit, these plates fit pretty good but a little oversized, I ground them down about an 1/8” for a better fit.

Hammered back the pinch weld, trimmed a little more off the front bumper and the splash guard, trimmed the rocker panel caps.

Everything is fitting the 285’s fully stuffed without rub. Very happy, now just to find a welder.

Body mount chop complete - I used the metal tech 4x4 BMC kit for this - I did the chop and fit, had a local shop weld it for me.
