Well, I'm already not so adamant.
Initially I wanted Venture Edition with KDSS but without Moonroof - but these things are nonexistent here in WA.
Venture because it has all external mods/colorization I'm interested in.

But looks like I'll go with with TRDOP and will do black out by myself - not a big deal but still some hassle vs already done Venture edition.

I have a 2017 ORP with kdss and no sunroof. I had a hard time finding one in the SF bay area in 2016 when they were called Trail Premium edition.

2019 Off Road Premium Mag Grey with KDSS Moon Roof and sliding cargo tray

Didn't have a choice. Wanted a 2019 Mag Grey with KDSS and sliding cargo tray. It was late 2019 and the pickings were getting slim. 2020's were about to roll in and wanted to avoid getting all that collision avoidance crap and found one in Miami and had it shipped here. Came with a moon roof. Actually like the moonroof now even though originally didn't want one. Its very nice this time of year to use the moonroof while driving. 6' tall here and have no head clearance problems.

I've had eight vehicles with sun/moon roofs. None have ever leaked. Not even my '10 F150 Raptor. I drive with the roof tilted all the time, so it's been opened and closed many times. Comes in handy if the dogs are in the truck, roof tilted and windows (all of them) lowered a few inches. I had it tinted to 5%.

We have a 2017 TRD ORP with KDSS and no sun/moon roof.

We acquired it as I had been asking around and this one was a special order for the dealership a customer had been waiting 4 months for.
When it arrived they backed out of the offer and since I knew the salesman they gave me a call and I was able to talk them down in price, as most folks want the sun/moon roof opening option. So they were going to have a tough time moving the vehicle.
I was specifically looking for one as my 3rd gen had a bad leak in the window lining area of the sun roof opening and I planned to put a full length rack up there anyways, so no need for that option.
As others have said, the extra head room is nice and plenty of room for patches.

Don't settle, if you're going to drop north of $30k on a vehicle, any vehicle, get the options you want and know are in the price range. It's the salesperson's / dealer's responsibility to find it if they want to make a sale.
Be comfortable with walking if it's not the vehicle you want as it's you that has to drive and pay for it over the next XX years.

Out of curiosity - what was calendar time of 3 boat shipments for this?
Yeah, I also live near Seattle and I see situation here is not good with KDSS/-Sunroof vehicles...

Pre Covid, boats arrived about every 3 weeks. I tried manually searching every state dealer website. Some dealers are not quick to update their website. Best search was the salesperson using the Toyota computers. Unknown if they still use the same schedule. I recall the dealers can't really see what's on the boat. Have to wait for vehicles to be released to inventory.

Until this week, I too was searching for an ORP or Venture with KDSS and no moonroof. I'm tall and had only sat in a Limited with a sunroof in order to gauge headroom (my hair was hitting). So, Cincinnati dealer found 2 within 300 miles, that's it.

I then sat in a Venture and an ORP with moonroof and low and behold, I fit. The Venture we test drove had KDSS so I was able to test back to back vs. the ORP without KDSS. I now at least know now that I do want KDSS. Unfortunately, KDSS in general is as rare as hens teeth around here as other than the Venture, there were only two others within 300 miles with the sunroof, a total of 5 vehicles within the 600 mile circle.

Also determined that I don't want to pay the premium for the Venture, just not worth it. Oh well, not in a hurry. Will wait until the right ORP comes along.

This is exactly what I asked for at the dealership today and they can only find one with a sunroof. I am questioning whether I need KDSS or not though too.

I don’t want a moonroof because I’d like to use the location for an NMO antenna mount. Otherwise the antenna moves back and interferes with the rack location, or I have to place the antenna in a non-ideal spot - like the hood.

Unfortunately all the ORP’s I’ve seen have moonroofs.

Well, I found one around ~200 miles from me, but still wondering why sunroofs are so popular.

My opinion - they leak, they reduce cabin height, during fast stop rear passenger hit sunroof with head (I tested that by myself ), it costs extra money.
In my previous vehicle I never used sunroof...

I’ve never known anyone to have an OEM moonroof leak. I’ve definitely heard of aftermarket ones having issues. IMHO, I don’t think they kill the headroom that bad... definitely worse in a Tacoma.

But, here’s my take: I wanted one and got one and I love it. But, when I envision my future and the fact that eventually I’d like to go full length roof rack with maybe a Alu-Cab or Area BFE Tent, I question why I got one....

No distractions, no glass breaking, no leaks, no repairs, more headroom.

It was an easy choice for me.

KDSS and no sunroof. Was sitting in the dealer's lobby. Took it for a test drive and that was all she wrote.
