4RunninMD's Build Thread

$335 shipped and yea i dont think my xj with a 3" lift and 31" tires would have handled as well as my stock 4runner. I do miss it sometimes though. It was so clean and going doorless was a blast.

Nice xj, I had an 01. The greyish blue color... 3" with 30's...still miss that thing and wifey likes to remind me that we should've never sold it.

Yea i miss it a lot some times but having a new born come june im glad i have the 4runner bigger and more safety features. When my 9 year old sat in the back her head was above the top of the seat so if i had gotten into an accident there was nothing there stopping her head from whipping back and seriously hurting her neck even for a small bump from behind

So tonight I only got around to getting the harness together. I could have done a quick crimp job but Id rather solder and make it neat with shrink wrap. I wanted to keep my stock JBL SYNTHESIS system so I ordered the module with the head unit from crutchfield. Will have pics of radio installed tomorrow [emoji1360]

Ended up getting the install done right before dark yesterday. Im having issues with my Metra dash kit not fitting properly. Going to trim it and see what I can do to make it work. I think its due to having a full 7" screen.

Waiting on this headlight film to come in. I saw it done on a 5th gen and really liked it. So I figure ill give it a shot for only $12

Your build is looking good so far, especially comsidering you started 3 months ago. I also got the Bilstein 5100's all around, just waiting to install them. I ended up going with FJ coil springs because I found a set for extremely cheap on a forum.

How difficult was the double din head unit install? Ive been wanting to replace my stock radio but didnt know if I wanted to tackle it yet.

Thanks man [emoji1360]. The install was pretty simple. The part that took me the longest was the wire harness. It took me 2 hours to get it together with solder and shrink wrap to make it neat. But once that was done installing the unit is a breeze. The dash kit gave me a little trouble cause it didn't fit properly so i chopped the top center section out with a dremel tool. Im happy with it. Its the kit crutchfield sent with the headunit but other companies make a kit that fits perfect. I just didn't want to spend $30 and wait for it to come in.

I've lost the lighting on the right side of my data display (outside temp, etc.). Is there an easy fix to this?

My local dealer stocks those bulbs for the console. There's a couple different ones though so look at their schematic when you buy them

Where did you find the bulbs? Two of my control pods are dark.

The dealership is the only place I found direct replacements. I think people find just bulbs and put them in the socket but its just easier inthink to get them from the dealer. $4 a piece

neo4 behind the LED screen and neo3 in the HVAC controls.

I replaced mine with all LED to (hopefully) prevent burnout in the future. Just make sure you check they work as they need to be put in the right way (they are sensitive to orientation in the circuit). If it's out just flip it 180 degrees and reinsert.

Good luck and great build. Interested to see the headlight film.

Nice to see fellow Marylander on here. Your original plans are a lot like what's done to my runner. Those 30+ inches of snow were nice, I didn't want to brag but my rig was an ANIMAL in the snow and it's close to stock. Glad to see others are having the same experiences
