4th Gen 2x4 Suspension Help

First I would like to introduce myself; I’m new to this forum but have been in the Toyota familyfor a long time. I am currently looking at swapping the front shocks/coils from my wife’s 4runner to some from a 4x4 FJ picking up the front end a bit.

When I got to the point of looking at swapping out the shocks it appears that the shocks on the 4runner are tied into the brake system.(or some other hydraulic system) What have others done here If I could be point to an install or some answers it would be greatly appreciated.

The sport editions have a factory hydraulic shock system called XREAS. There is a ton of info on here if you'll just search for that term. The XREAS system is very expensive to replace. Most just pull it and swap regular shocks in.

Any draw back from removing the XREAS system? That would also force me into having to go with rear shocks also correct?

Yes, You have to replace all 4 shocks if you decide to go with shocks other than XREAS shocks.

The trick to removing the XREAS shocks is to have all 4 corners of the truck fully extended (hanging in the air). Then simply undo the valve bolts on the XREAS line (close to the shock bodies, but not on them). You can then put in new replacement XREAS shock(s) on one or all corners, but if you choose non XREAS shocks you have to replace all 4 pretty much.

XREAS does help to prevent nose dive and body roll, so just using normal OEM shocks will increase body roll and nose dive (pending how bad the current shocks is).
