I bought my used '04 V8 sport 4x4 on Cape Cod in 2005 with only 3k miles. I love my truck and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off! It now has about 103k miles and the only things that have gone out are an oxygen sensor and just recently I had to have some power steering repairs (pump, hoses). I've already had my trans and diffs. serviced (front and rear), my belts and water pump were changed this summer and I get regular oil changes. Spark plugs probably in Jan '12.
I tow our jetskis with it and haul lots of stuff--bikes, kayaks. I was worried when it rolled over 100k. This is the first car I've had that I kept that long (and I'm in my late 40's). Even my Explorer I had in the 90's was crapping along at 50k. God, I hated that thing! Anyway, I plan to retire my 4Runner to w-end driving and trips with towing involved in 2013. But I won't get rid of it!
and just a personal comment-- I think those 5th gens are butt ugly!! lol!
