4th gen 4runner - gas pump keeps shutting off

Yep, just need to drop the spare tire and get under there, there is a (12mm?) bolt on the bracket that holds the EVAP filter on the hose, just get a socket extension and take if off. Take the gas gap off and blow air up that tube and again through the hose of the evap filter (once you have it removed). Hardest part is getting that plastic connector to let go of the hose on the top of the evap, I had to get a large screwdriver and just pry it off cause the plastic is so old. Just be careful so that you can get it back on there once you got it all cleaned up. Took me about 20 minutes to do the whole job. Good luck!

Did this on mine, I'll know more if it helped next time I put gas in it. Not much came out of the little canister. The hose on the evap box side is a pain to remove so I broke one side and was able to pry it off. To re-install I put a zip tie around it so it doesn't shake itself loose.

I’m a bit confused…

So you disconnect the tube going into the filter at the filter and then blow up towards the filler neck? Wouldn’t this get dirt into the tank?
Or you blow from the filler neck side (can you even reach the hose through the neck?) towards the filter?

And the other tube you disconnect at the evap canister and blow towards/through the filter?

The hose on the evap box side is a pain to remove so I broke one side and was able to pry it off.

FSM says that's a "Type-A" connector. You first have to push in, then pinch the two tabs and pull it out.
