4th Gen Auto Power Mirrors

Well folks, for those of you interested, I've been pretty busy lately but I did get a pretty cool mod done today by the dealer and I thought I'd let you all know.

As some of you may know, the HILUX SURF SSR-G (US market "Limited" equivalent) has power folding side view mirrors. Well Toyota JDM came out with an auto power folding function that AUTOMATICALLY folds the side view mirrors in when you lock the doors and AUTOMATICALLY opens them back up when you unlock the doors. Of course if the key is in the ignition, they stay open unless I push the button to fold them in or open them.

It's not a 4th Gen lift or a killer bumper/grile guard but I like it.:D

You get all the really cool mods over there!

I've seen the folding mirrors on a van a friend imported to Singapore from Japan. Very nice addition -- wish they would include it in the models over here.

does the mechanism unlock/disengage after it folds the mirror in/out? what happens if you pull the mirror back in/out manually? does it think the mirror is folded in/out when pulled out manually and keep folding the mirror in/out another 90 degrees?

Do US market 4th Gen come with power retractible sideview mirrors?

I guess I could fold the mirrors in manually, but they have always been power mirrors with a button next to the window controls.

I used to have to push the button to retract or extend the mirrors when I parked or wanted to close or open them. Now, when I exit the truck and lock the door they close and when I unlock the doors they open.

The auto retract/extend was about $170.

Would you be able to capture that in a movie? Man i'd love to see that! More so, I'd love to have that on my rig!

This feature is on the Lexus LX470. as well as the LS430. Very cool feature. but i guess i only makes sense if you park in normally narrow areas.

hehe... Narrow... like this?

Yes, that is the clearance many times. What I get concerned about is when meeting an oncoming vehicle. It can be that close and most of the time the other guy or gal doesn't care if they scrape you going by or hit and flip your mirror around if it doesn't come off. Parallel parking is a must to fold in the mirrors because they will get torn off.

I'm not sure how much they are to replace but I would wager they are premium $$.

I could make a short video if someone will host it.
