4th Gen Bolt on Sliders - Questions, opinions, and feedback

Ordered. Opted for the top plate for extra step and hopefully protect paint even a little. The little dogs will appreciate it, maybe a place to set a beer too, who knows. If I don't like them or they get banged up I can always just cut the top plate mounts off and go topless!

Looks cooler without top plate covering the tubes IMO. Not sure why they can't still be used as steps without the top plate.

'cause little feet get stuck between the openings, when loading MTB's up top, it's helpful to have a full step vs. a 1-2" diameter tube, and when loading skis up top, it's less likely to slip with a full top tread vs. a 1-2" diameter tube.

i have RCI sliders without the top plate. i'm just not a fan of how the top plate looks. i could stand on it all day without any discomfort or awkwardness. i dont do much rock crawling, so i doubt they'll get "tested", but they're there just incase. and they look awesome.

What gen and can you post a pic if a 4th? I'm not sure about the bump out???? I can save a crap ton of $$$'s going with RCI 'cause I can pick up in Fort Collins: no shipping.

let me see if i can dig up some pics. if not, i'll update this thread tomorrow with some. and yeah 4th gen.

i would save that money too, i'll stand by any RCI product. i went up there and got the sliders and other parts myself also. forgot the dude's name, but he's a great guy.

ok found some pics. yes it has the bump out, the sliders are angled slightly upwards, and the rear door (just barely) clears them.

Your T4R looks awesome!!! Are you going up Mt. Evans RD?

The sliders look pretty low profile. Is there enough of a step to stand on while loading the roof?

If you want to use those as steps for getting in the vehicle, I am currently using just trimmed strips of staircase grip tape on the tops of mine. They've held up for a little over a year in the winter and such.

Though I think I'll actually switch over to something like a rhino-line or grippy paint when these finally start peeling.

Thanks bro. Good eye, i sure am going up the road to mt evans lol. And as for the step, yeah im sure you could load some stuff on the roof...however ive never tried it so i wouldnt know.

RCI it is! It was a difficult decision, but, no shipping, no drilling, no painting, and a group buy pushed RCI ahead of C4Fab. Ultimately this supports a local company, saves me $150 in shipping, the hassle of painting or finding a powder coat co., and I don't have to drill into my frame.

Leaning towards RCI in Fort Collins myself-just got an 06 SR5 V8 and my son gets the 3rd Gen.

Wondering if anyone cares to comment on how they are holding up and whether they were easily installed?

I have welded on All Pro Offroad sliders on the 3rd gen. They have held up fine to a couple of rock slams now.

I'm choosing to go with bolt on this time because even powder coating does not stand up well to the mag chloride now used on the winter roads here in Colorado. Cleaning them up for repaint has been a hassle twice now.

Welcome any updates on any of the bolt on slider options. Thanks!

My White Knuckle Offroad sliders are holding up great. They have a couple of indents from landing on rocks, but that's what they're there for.

I actually just ordered top plates for mine. We had a very close call where a dog's leg got caught between the slider and the 4Runner when he slipped getting into the 4Runner and almost snapped his leg. Luckily I caught him before he fell back too far.

I can also vouch for White Knuckle sliders. Mine are DOM and strong as heck. Have dropped the entire weight of my truck on these things more than once and not even a dent. Now if only I could figure out a way to repaint them easier!

Trail gear offers some nice priced sliders that come with a plate that looks like this so I am assuming I am going to need to drill the frame and use nyloc nuts on the other side. I’m going with metaltech when they have their next sale. Had these on my 07 FJ. Very durable. The bottom square tubes extend the length of the frame rail with chamfered ends. Their design is an added plus.

I don't know about Trail Gear, but the White Knuckle ones use square u-bolts that go around the frame rail.

So I just want to share a few thoughts I had as Ive also been doing research and then my experience

- So I moved back to NY and have young kids - so I need some that function as side steps. I also worry about them getting icy or slippery with snow

I ended up going with victory 4x4. Bought them on black friday with a discount and they arrived, powder coated, last week - so pretty good 3-4 week turn around - I was impressed

I was able to get all my side step bolts off and loosen the E brake.
- Victory 4x4 and a few others use the same sliders for both 4th and 5th gen. It seems that many of these sliders that are meant for both - the holes dont quite line up with that of the 4th gen frame (Ie off by about a few mm to 1 cm). This was more of an issue with my driver side than passenger side.

The big issue that I was not expecting is that the pre drilled holes in my frame (for XREAS or whatever else) would be so difficult to access. Im assuming that the threads inside have rusted/ stripped and Im having a really hard time getting bolts to thread

So those are my thoughts - I like the look - a little less functional as a step than the stock side steps, the bolt holes on sliders made both for 4th and 5th gen (ie 03+) arent always drilled for satisfactory placement and this was harder than I thought because all the frame holes wont thread (may need self tapping screws or something else)

ive run white knuckle ones for a couple years (i think...not enough coffee yet)

they have been great!!! the tough part for the WKO ubolts install was the brake hardlines. the ubolts go inside of them (obviously) so you have to pop clips holding the brakelines along the frame. one of the bolts was super tight to get to, only got it on slightly, but they have corroded to my vehicle nicely now, rock solid and recommended. helped me alongside a tree on bypass once.

Trying to understand how 4x Innovations can ship their weld-on kit to my residence for $70 while Shrockworks charges $250 for their bolt-ons. What am I missing?
