4th Gen Brake Life

Has anyone had to replace their brake pads on a 4th generation yet? If so, how many miles did you get out of them?

Good question

I have a friend who has a 1998 4runner SR5. He believes he has over 80,000 miles on his pads. Of course, he doesn't work on his truck, and just pays the bills, so he might have had them replaced and not know it.

I had to have both my front rotors turned at 13,000 miles ( brake pedal pulsation ). Recently (14,200 miles) the left rear caliper started to make a tiny squeek during the final 20 feet of braking, at just the right pedal pressure.

I took the wheel off, pulled the caliper, and relubed the caliper sliders myself. Noise has been gone almost 600 miles now. Hope it stays away for good!!

I changed the fronts around 47K..
they still looked good..but getting ready for a 6K+ road trip in November..so i decided to do it anyways.....

I was hoping to change to fuel filter..but it seesm like Toyota put the fuel filter inside the gas tank..too much work for me for now..i will do ot probably around 60K.....

i got 2003 Sport 4x4 V8....
BF Goodrich A/T 265/70/17

Vehicle (2003 V-8 non-sport 4x2) has about 15K miles; when I last checked the brakes, they were about 2/3 worn. I'm guessing I'll replace them by 20K miles. We live in a hilly area and do mostly around town driving.
