4th Gen for 2010 Tundra Rock Warrior?

I was at the mall the other day and saw a 2014 Tundra on display. It got me thinking. Went home and found a 2010 Tundra 5.7L Doublecab Rock Warrior package in black at our local Toyota dealer. 21,000 miles and they are asking $29,000. Been wanting a truck for a couple of years and I've decided I'm going to check it out this Saturday. Don't get me wrong, I like my 4runner. But I could really use the truck for hunting and fishing, as well as house projects. Does anyone have any input, good or bad, on making the switch to the Tundra? I'm all ears.

The Tundras are a great truck if you're not into the whole heavy duty towing stuff. Most people I know that want a truck need to tow and do heavy duty stuff that really a diesel would be better for. But my co-worker and his son do the same thing, hunting and house projects and love their 2nd Gen Tundras to death.

The 5.7L has gobs of power and the truck is nice; the 4WD system is like most any other Toyota system.

my dad has the crewmax rock warrior and i like it. it is a bit faster then our 4th gens so be gentle on the gas with them. i went to get the first free oil change in the thing for my dad and spun tires out of the parking lot. one of the parts of the rock warrior package is the lower gearing so it will spin tires from a stand still if your not gentle.

one mod that would be a must on the tundra is a k&n filter, makes the truck sound amazing

Kinda depends on your financial situation , would you get better financing 0% on new or what on 2010 ? decent trade-in on 4r ?

Yeah, I have a lot of questions that need answered and my wife has even more. It's going to have to be an extremely good deal. My 4runner is paid off. And it's a v8. And I already installed Bilsteins and FJ springs. And it has remote start. BUT, the doublecab will probably have more interior seating space and of course the possibility to haul more gear/stuff. Should be stopping by the dealership tomorrow to check things out.

the double cab will be a lot of cab space, the crewmax has more then you know what to do with. the only downside i saw with the double cab is that the seats dont slide and recline like the crewmax, other then that they are great. i was able to have 5 adults in a crew max for 11hours with no complaints on space

Another thing I like on the double cab is how the rear seats fold up for more storage. The reclining seats are great in the crewmax but there would be so much more storage space if they did the same.

While biking yesterday, I spotted a double cab with 3" spacer and 325/65/18 (35x13). It was huge but but still looked good...not too much. I've been wanting one too for a while but can't justify the swap. I'd def get the Rock Warrior.

Btw, I looked at a '10 RW DC here in town a while back. It was mint with only 50k and they came down to 23.5k right away. I'm guessing I couldve got it for 22k but the wife would've killed me. Ha

Hmmm, i found that the more space you have the more crap you will haul around that you dont need LoL.

To me its in the numbers

lets say your car is worth 10k based on sr5 v8 4wd with 100k

used $30k, 5% interest on used car, $10k down(trade in) Payments $400 for 60 months

New tundra 2013 base sr5 crewmax 4wd no options, $40k, $10k trade in, payments $530 for 60 months @ 0% interest

right now $0 car payment $10k equity
Used tundra $400 carpayment for 60 months $6-7000 equity because of your trade
New tundra $530 carpayment for 60 months $4-5000 equity base on your trade.

thats $4800 or $6360 per year depending on new or used!

i was in a similar position 8 months ago, i chose to stay used. bank the money as if i had a $500 car payment. now that account is @ $3200 minus some repairs/upgrades i am still ahead. seeing my bank account grow makes me happier than seeing a shiny new truck in the driveway making my bank account shrink. LoL, new truck also means a WHOLE new list of MODS..that doesn help the bak account either!!

I have both, 4th gen T4R & 2012 CM Tundra. I like the Tundra for what I use it for (towing, hauling). It is a solid truck with good power (a lot more power than the 4.7 Runner). It's a good truck for towing (best keep the trailer weight south of 9000 lbs).

The 4Runner is so much more maneuverable and agile for off road. The CM is a beast, capable off road but so much bigger. I like to have nice open options for getting myself through a bad spot or, more importantly, out of a bad spot. Being able to turn around in the road due to the small wheelbase and right turning radius is worth so much to me.

I guess it boils down to what you need/want the truck for. The Tundra is s great truck. The DC is a decent size cab, CM is an incredibly huge cab (my favorite part of my Tundra). The 4Runner is still a decent size interior, but not even close to the CM in size.

So I had to work from 8-11 this morning and when I got home I told my wife that I wanted to get to the dealer. My wife had slept in and was just getting up. By the time she had breakfast and got dressed it was 12. We finally leave the house and we get no more than a block away and it starts raining. She looks at me and tells me she doesn't want to go if it's raining. I take a very deep breath and turn around to go back home. The rain continues for most of the day and finally let's up. We get to the dealer and......

It's closed. I drive around the lot twice and the black Tundra Rock Warrior is nowhere to be found. And the white Tundra Rock Warrior they had for sale has a SOLD tag hanging from the mirror. I haven't said a word to her in almost 3 hours now. I'm too bummed.

On the bright side, you have still have $10k in equity in your truck and a extra few hundred bucks in your pocket!
