Taking my “Overloader” down a hard Jeep Trail (Slickrock, CA Trail Report)

I had the Metal Tech upper and lower with the lower link armor welded in place. I was also able to swap to a rear CV shaft with a smaller diameter, but beffier and adjust the pinion angle with the MT links.

I love the MT option but I opted for the easier and cheaper fix with upgraded SPC LCAs. Ill have to look at the upgraded rear CV shaft. Great idea.

Great pics and write up, you should send this to Sidekick Off-road

Also, fourwd1, do we want to move this thread to the offroading section for increased visibility?

I've been here for about 18 years, and I don't recall ever looking in the 'offroading' section. :hiding:

Yup the steering knuckle and rear LCAs are known weak points. I will be addressing the rear LCAs with beefier ones but I'm not sure if I am going to gusset my knuckles. I'd rather have them bend like that vs. full breakage. So I can at least drive off the trail like I did.

Hey, many thanks for this!

I have written reports on TrailDamage.Com but the site is mostly crickets nowadays.

Many thanks for Slickrock. I was aware of it but did not know much about it.

Today, my teenage son was practicing on pavement but I did drive a new short, easy trail in the desert. Close to town, though, so it was a good thing the Ford pickup drivers we met were sensible and let us pass quickly :)

I first taught him offroad so now he is "man, you get to do the fun?" I am like, oh yeah; you can have all the pavement :) Good times.

Cheers!
