Hey everyone. I'm looking to get a Rooftop tent. I have only seen a handful of hardshells on 4th gens and would like to see if we could get a thread going for some pics. Primarily interested in purchasing Alucab or Eezi-Awn.

A hard shell RTT install is dependent on the kind of roof rack you have. I would not install one on the stock T4R roof rack. I have an FJ cruiser also, and had a roof rack custom built in anticipation of installing a hard shell RTT. You need a flat wide surface to bolt a RTT to. I think the stock RR on my T4R is just about worthless compared to the custom unit I had made for the FJ.

if you want to stick with the factory running rails as opposed to getting a whole new roof rack, i'd suggest at the very least getting a set of these crossbars:
LFD Off Road - Ruggedized Crossbar 4th Gen

i run my hardshell RTT with a couple of those on my factory running rails and it's bomber - no issue at all even when doing some fairly rugged wheeling.

I just stumbled upon this old thread and thought I'd chime in. I've seen some cool hardshell rooftop tents on 4th gens, but I'd love to see some pics from you guys. Alucab and Eezi-Awn are solid choices, good call. By the way, does anyone have any recommendations for the best softshell rooftop tents? I heard that there are the Best Softshell Roof Top Tents. What do you think about them?

I just recently got an FSR Evolution v2 on my Prius rack and I love it. It’s super low profile installed on the rack itself.

Please excuse the dirty car, I got it washed after this photo.

Love the tent and the quality of it overall. Love the look on the car too but boy is it heavy 180lbs~ give or take.

I've been running an Alu-Cab Gen 3 on my 4th gen for about a year now and love it. These car rooftop tents are built like tanks and handle weather like a champ. Setup and breakdown are fast, and the low-profile design keeps wind noise minimal. I’ll try to snap a pic this weekend and post it here.
