4th gen headunit removal

can anyone point me to where i can find information on installing a new head unit on my 4th gen? i've put headunits in before, but i was wondering what special tool or process, if any, that i would need in order to remove the factory unit.

also, there wouldn't happen to be a thread on installing PAC SWI-JACK in a 4th gen would there? i've tried searching, but either i'm not using the right terms, or there hasn't been a thread about it, which i doubt.

thanks!

thanks a lot. that should be stickied in either this or the 4th gen sub-forum
:iagree:I posed that to the mods and was told it's in a sticky with a whole bunch of other stuff, I could not find it. So I keep it bookmarked so I can always find it. Anyway happy trails.

Can you post a link to that thread about the PAC SWI-JACK? Cant find it on the search :bonk:

i'm having a hard time finding the exact link i had earlier. but i do know that you can find specific instructions for a 4runner 4th gen on pac's website. i'm uninstalling my kenwood 8120 right now and taking some pictures because the people that installed it for me didn't do it to my liking, so i broke out the dremel tool and am making this thing the way i want it.

they stuck rolls of carpet on both sides of my brand new headunit not to mention put two tiny scratches on the face of it which are luckily only visable if the unit is turned off. now the real trick is finding a double din dash kit for this 4runner. i have had 6 best buys tell me they either don't stock it, or don't carry it. 3 circuit cities. 5 local stereo shops. none have had it. had one guy tell me i needed a single din for 10 minutes before i broke it down for him then he sold me these little tiny black plastic strips for 20 bucks which i told him i would probably be bringing back when the one i bought off of ebay shows up. i'll add my pictures to this thread once i get finished tonight. i really doubt it will be complete because i have a feeling the little black plastic things i bought are going to look terrible also.

so if anyone is looking for a double din kit and has had several people tell you it doesn't exist, go ahead and prepare to have to order it online. i have been everywhere so i wouldn't have to take this back apart again in less than a week. pics up later
