4th Gen Hood Lift Strut Question

Has anyone had occasion to replace the lift arms / strut for the hood ? My 2004's lift arms are completely non functional and need to be replaced. I haven't had any luck finding them online, as I'm not entirley sure what the proper name is I should be searching with. I'm sure the dealership will get an arm and a leg for a pair of these since I can't locate them online or at the local auto parts stores.

Has anyone here found these anywhere besides a dealership at a resonable price ? My idea of resonable is $30-$40 each or less. Hopefully that's not a pipe dream.

In the past I have had good luck carrying the strut into a Napa and asking them to match it up. By looking at the back of the paper catalog (that shows pics and specs) I have found hatch & hood struts when the catalogs would lead you to believe that the dealer was the only source.

I have the following part numbers for the hood strut:
Right side:
53440-39245
53440-69055
53440-69065

Left side:
53450-39225
53450-69055
53450-69065

Toyota calls it "Support Assy, LH or RH" and Partznet calls it a "strut". Partznet has it for $52.55 each.

I'm not sure if these will work, but a lot of the Tacoma guys uses Redline Tuning's kit. Redline Tuning hood QuickLIFT systems - lifts and holds your hood without the stock prop rod. Hood strut, damper, support - Automotive niche products.

2003 4runner hood struts

I ordered 2 struts from lifts support depot (about $75). Easy replace, once I figured out that the old hardware had to be removed (no unsnapping the old struts), I unbolted the old struts, screwed in the new ball caps and bolts (supplied) and snapped in the new struts. about 1/2 hr
