4th Gen - Interior Lights Out

The lights went out over the weekend in 2 of the three air-control dials (air temp and fan speed)...see pic below.

Is this common? More important, Im guessing I can get to the lights by removing the lower storage compartment, then pull out the housing. Sound right?

Last, any idea what bulbs I need?

I did some searches for previous threads with no luck, but honestly, Im not sure what this is even called.

Thanks.

Behind the ashtray there is one screw to take out. After that, the HVAC module up to the bottom of the radio snaps out. First time it's a little scary, but a firm tug will get it out. There is one harness that needs to be unplugged then.

The lights are Toyota specific and most dealers, don't ask me why, don't stock them?!

The following link shows where someone found bulbs at Radio Shack and replaced them.

Hope that helps and Good Luck!!!

I just had to do this last spring. If you are going to replace 3 bulbs, you might as well replace them all. I believe there are 7 or 11..can't remember exactly. I do remember there are at least 3 different part #'s.

I found them at a Toyota dealer in Bethlehem PA. They can ship to you, in case Radio Shack does not have all 3 part #'s (bulbs are in different heights, but not sure if there is one that can fit in all sockets).

there has been alot of threads about this every toyota dealer i have worked at carries them there 7 bucks a piece

I live in the Chicago burbs with 2 large Toyota dealers nearby. They never have any bulbs in stock. What a PITA. I've since gone the Radio Shack route and replaced the bulbs in the socket myself. The bulbs are brighter and much less expensive.
