4th gen optima battery question

I want to replace my battery with a Optima. The place that sells them said it may not work because of the optima battery post location. Does anyone have a optima in a 4th gen? What install problems did you have and also what part number battery did you use?

I have not done this yet, but my next battery will be a RedTop. The Optima terminals are almost in the center of the battery, so rotating the battery 180 degrees, to get the pos & neg terminals on the correct side, should not be a problem? I have seen Optima

I was able to (just barely) fit an Optima D31A. The only thing I had to do was use a different hold-down since the battery is a bit taller. I would think the D34 sizes would fit easily.

After that thread I also replaced the hold down brackets with shorther ones to eliminate the spacer and I replaced the 10 Gauge ground with 8 Gauge. The positive terminal should reach without modification.

Thanks for the info. Are you saying the red top and yellow top have different terminal locations? I will be using a red top.

No both the red & yellow tops have terminals located slightly but not exactly in the center of the battery. Most batteries have the terminals closer to one side, so if you rotate it 180 degrees the cables will not reach. But any battery with an

Optima makes a red top 34R with reversed posts that will fit perfectly without cutting wires. The only thing you will have to do is get a shorter mounting kit as the optima is much shorter than stock.

If you want a yellow top, you'll have to mod the wiring as described in my write up.
