4th Gen rear defroster, sucks !!

Is is just my 03 SE or do all the rear defrosters suck on the 4 the Gen? It takes forever for it to remove the fog, and just about when it finally does the auto shut off kicks in and it shuts down.

Also, isnt the passenger side cargo window also a defroster? If it is mine doesnt do anything!!

cargo windows are actually the radio antennas. one is vertically polarized, and the other is horizontally polarized.

My rear defroster works really good. Are you sure yours is even working at all? Do you see the frost start to melt above and below each line?

BTW, the side rear windows don't have defrosters....those lines are antennas. I believe there are two (one in each side window) for the diversity antenna system.

Yes, it is working, it does melt the frost/snow on the outside and removes the fog from the inside, just VERY slowly and sometimes not completely.

I dont see any breaks in any of the lines, and they all seem to be working.

Thanks for the input on the cargo windows. I thought the driver cargo only was the antenna, now I know. DUH!!

Mine works fine as well. Maybe yours is faulty. How long is a "long time to defrost"? I guess it also depends how thick it's on there.

The rear defroster works just fine on my '03. It works at least as well and maybe a bit better than the ones on my previous vehicles. Although the climate here is quite a bit milder than what you get up in your neck of the woods.

I think mine is crappy compared to my Tahoe , which would pretty much boil the stuff right off.

Mine works okay I guess. The one in my Silverado is much better, you can actually see steem coming off the glass.

Regarding the rear cargo windows. The one window has the antenna for FM while the other window has the antenna for AM. At least this is what I was told.

Windows - plural. Yes. They are dual purpose - So the colder it gets the more you need to turn up the radio in order to defrost those side windows!

Yes, I have noticed my rear defrost works a bit slower than others I have had in the past. However, I would worry more if it worked too well. We had a Plymouth Volare station wagon many moons ago, and I remember the winter of 77 and 78, the rear window blew out about 2 minutes after the defroster was turned on. That happened twice!

Dealer blamed it on the cold, of course. Because we all know what a quality car Chrysler was building back then! OK, the straight 6 was a decent motor, but the rest of the car sucked donkey.
