4th Gen Seat Fix

This may have been posted before, but I wanted to share anyway.

I took out my drivers seat in my 03 SR5 to fix that loose seat feeling along with the noise it makes.
After pulling the seat, I found it was a broken support bar in the rear bottom of the seat. I was able to weld the break and put the seat back in...PERFECT, problem solved… 30 min of work.

I think the reason this fails is the heat pattern on the tube that cracked is pretty small, the weld was strong, as you can see the break is beside the weld. Problem is too much penetration on the robot welder.

Tools Needed 14mm socket

Process

Remove 4 14mm seat mount bolts
Unplug 2 connectors under seat
Place damp cloth around area to be welded
Pry broken tube back into place
Weld aprox 1 inch break
Let cool
Re-install seat and wires.

If you live in DFW area, you can bring me your seat and I will fix it for you if needed

It is great when the dealer will step up and fix a known problem. For everyone else, it is nice to know what has to be done, if for no other reason than to have an idea of what is fair to pay to have the work done.

Thats awesome. I will have to pull my seat out this weekend and slap a weld on there while im installing my FJ springs.
