4th Gen Snorkel

Has anyone installed a Snorkel on a 4th Gen 4R? If so, where did you get it and how much was it? Post some pics if possible.

Since many of us are waiting for the new ARB winch bumper, wouldn't an ARB snorkel be the next step in the 4R evolution?

I know some of you have played with the idea of installing a snorkel on your 4th gen. Has anyone tried it? Anyone have plans for one?

if your going to go through any water at all having a snorkel would be the best idea. You can get in to some trouble quick with as low as the intake is now.

That's what I'm worried about. Where can I get a snorkel for the 4th Gen 4R?

I read about the internal Snorkel Mod but I would prefer a "real"system.

Isn't the air intake above the wheel well? You'd have to be in some pretty deep water to get water in there.

I'm sure once the bumper is released they'll start releasing other items. In the meantime, hang tight or do the internal snorkel mod.

Don't forget that if you get water to your doors, waterproof the electronics or else you're asking for it. Honestly, anyone that will take their rig and submerge it is really one tough driver Outside of that since you'll never encounter those conditions the internal mod is ideal (clean and not visible to the naked eye). Now if you want the bling then ok that's a diff story!

Have you done the rear diff breather tube extension??

On a related topic, I know that the 4runners have two breather tubes in the engine bay...what are they for?? One is for the front diff...what is the other one for?? There should be a total of 4 breather tubes...front diff, rear diff, auto tranny, & transfer case.

I would worry about these breather tubes AND protecting your electronics BEFORE i worry about snorkels.

I ordered the parts for the rear diff breather mod yesterday, so that will be my next project. I guess I'll take on the snorkel project in the future. Before that I still want to upgrade to TRD exhaust, OME Lift and new wheels....the money is just bleeding out of me...

Adding to a current thread is more considerate and makes more sense than start a new one!

**Its a tight turn but it can be done. I will be using 3" Rubber hosing to make the turn and get me to the air box.

Nice pics and a great looking install, good job. If you get some pics of the interior setup to the breather post em up. How'd you cut the fender hole, looks like a nice neat job from the inner fender pic.

Thank you. I certainly thought about the install for long enough and took extra time on everything!

I used a 3" hole saw. Drilling the pilot/guide hole is easy but you fully realize what you are getting yourself into once that hole saw starts digging in!!

I will certainly keep everyone informed with how I get it all connected.

Sorry. I'm not getting back into the fender well until my suspension and bumper go on.

I've got the shocks purchased and will be getting the springs in the next week or two.

I will certainly post the plumbing when it happens!

So I got this response.

Hi Doug,

I don't have any good news for you. The Tacoma snorkel prototype is finally done but it took one year to get it. Next comes the 3rd generation 4runner and then the 4th generation, so it will be a while. If the Tacoma is successful, then the introduction of the 4runners might be a little bit faster but I don't see that happening until at least next summer.

We will keep our fingers crossed

You have disappointed not only myself but a large group of people. I know you have a business to operate but telling people that its "in the pipeline" back in October of 2010 and then retracting your statement and saying that it wont be coming for over a year now is very disappointing. You have lost a customer and potential advocate.

I am now going to take the Safari snorkel for the tacoma and fab it to fit my 4Runner.

And you can trust that this email conversation is on every 4th Generation forum I am a member of.
