4th Gen Speaker Replacement. Anyone care to spoonfeed a noob?

Ok so I have an 08 limited with the nav unit. Love the truck but the speakers are leaving a bit to be desired. I don't know much at all about audio but from what I understand my best bet to add a little pep to the setup would be to focus on the fron speakers only. I don't want a sub as I've been down that road before and alas I'm just getting old. I usually don't do this, but can someone just spoonfeed me here? I've read through some of the other threads and don't understand the terminology (2 way, 3 way etc). I just want to know a reasonably priced option for replacing the front speakers that will hopefully get me sounding somewhere close to the 05 infiniti g35 sedan that I'm coming from. If someone could recommend a specific setup and give me the details on what it would cost for a pro install I would be greatfull.

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with speaker's, only subs. However, I have done a bit of reading and believe your best bet is to add a component set to add some power to the front stage. I'd think a 4 channel amp powering a component set up front and a decent set of rear door speakers would do wonders. For a lot of good info on speakers and for advice on the route you should take, check out Car Audio Forum - CarAudio.com. There are a lot of great guys over there that are really knowledgeable in this area. It may not be 4runner specific, but I'm sure they can guide you in the direction you need to go.

It's comfortable, capable, good looking and has plenty of power. Much nicer than my dads 96 limited

I have an '07 4runner and had Tweeter pull out the head unit and front speakers the week I bought it new. Since you are keeping your head unit, I'd shop at Crutchfield.com They have a fit guide to show you all the speakers that will work in your model. I ended up with Polk db6501 front speakers with cross-overs that were far higher quality than the stock (base) speakers. They will sell you an install kit too. If you do the rear speakers be sure you get low profile ones, as there is less depth.

Tweeter had a pain connecting the steering wheel controls to the Alpine head unit - but that won't be an issue for you. Good luck.
