4th gen speakers

Has anyone taken apart the door panels to get to the speakers yet? it looks as though the entire door has to come apart. What's the trick?
Also, what is the speaker setup in my 03 sr5? which ones are the components with the front mounted tweeters? AND, has anyone noticed that the stock system is well...a little too stock? anybody swapped out the head unit for a nice in dash lcd head unit or anything yet?

Hey Dude,

I swapped out my stock unit for a Panasonic DVD system and it was definitely a good choice. Anyway regrading your question on the doors, you have to take the whole pannel off, yes. It's pretty easy though. Pry up the arm rest (only a clip holding it down) and get the screw there. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry out the plastic piece covering the area behind the latch handle (the thing you pull to open the door from the inside--there's a screw behind that black plastic). Finally you might have to get the small triangular piece of plastic from the top side cloest to your exterior mirror. After that, slip a prying tool under the plastic along the bottom and listen as the little plastic clips "pop" out rather loudly. They go along the enitre perimeter of the door and there are one or two in the middle.

The speaker setup is 6x9's in the front with a tweeter up high and 6x6.5/6.75 in the back. You need to either make or buy some spacers for the front set because the factory speakers are crazy looking, but you can get some cheap spacers no problem. You will just have to drill a little bit. As for the back, brackets should do since you don't have to space as much.

To be honest I am VERY impressed with the stock system.

It's clean and the speaker quality is excellent for the base line system. I've spent $1,000's on systems and in the end will probably upgrade this one as well, however I am particularly impressed with the mid range (could use a bit more treble.) For now, I threw in a 10" sub and it's a good all-around system being on a budget.

Factory 6 speaker system speakers sound ok with my CarPC and 4ch amp. It could use a subwoofer maybe but highs and mids are clean and flat sounding to me.
