I asked this question in the General Discussions forum and only got one relpy so I figured I would ask here...

So i am looking at getting the toytec lift 3RUN-FRCC link to the lift: http://www.toyteclifts.com/03074runnercart.html#03074runnerliftkits.html I have an 2007 4Runner sport 4wd with the v6. Since its the sport it have the XReas Suspension and what I want to know is can I install this kit which includes new springs with out having to replace my stock shocks since I want to keep XReas? I don't really want to do the spacers on the truck.. If I do have to remove Xreas then I will go with something totally different more than likely this lift if I can save up the money.. http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/03up4runnersaw.htm

Thank you for the help in advance.

Your first link doesn't work.

im pretty sure that if you want to retain xreas then you have to go with spacers...... however im not familiar with toytecs stuff.

I found the part number you were referring to and I wonder what the advantage of this is over a spacer lift. With a Cornfed 3/2 lift you would get the same look for less money. Seems like this would leave XREAS intact unless there is something I am missing.

Now from what I under stand is if you do the spacer lift you are preloading the spings which in turn stiffens the springs to provide the lift. Now with replacing the springs you would maintain the same stiffness and just gain lift. Am I thinking of this correctly??

I do not know of any XREAS equipped 4Runners using this setup. The problem is that the new spring will extend the length of the shock and at droop may reach the full extension of the shock, causing premature wear.

If you are lifting for offroading, you may want to consider OME as a more affordable, and reliable system. This will require removing the XREAS system entirely. SAW and other Coilover options are an expensive option, and you will need to buy the matching rear shocks and springs. It really depends on what type of offroading you are going to do. Depending on the valving of the shock, the additional spring rate of CO's will limit your ability to crawl and flex, unless you are adding weight to your built rig.

i totally understand what you are saying.. the shock extended more at rest and I will have less travel.. Now with the spacer lift you are doing that same thing right? In the front a spacer is placed inbetween the top of the strut and the spring and in the rear you place a spacer inbetween the body and the sping. So either a spacer or new spings would give you the same results and that would be a lift with less downward travel of the shock which I think would be limited by the front A-arm and rear end and even a longer shock wouldn't increast the travel. Please if my logic is wrong let me know. Just don't really see any differance unless i do the spacer that goes between the strut and body but even a rear spacer still needs to be added..

I'm happy w/ Cornfed 3/2, i wanted to keep the x-reas and it doesn't change the ride much I spend alot of time in the woods, and at are farm hunting and need a 4wd that will get me through the mud and back, its great for that kinda stuff, if i was rock crawlin i would use a different set up, rock crawlin in a 4th gen T4R is not for me. If you use your T4R like i do, i think you'ed be happy with a cornfed set up.

Your logic is correct. I just wonder if having a stock spring with a spacer is equivalent to having a longer spring that will extend when unsprung in offroad situations.

cornfed spacer install

In this case your logic would seem correct. I cannot see what the difference would be whether you went with a 2" longer spring versus a 2" spacer. The stock shock will be extended that much more with either setup.

your logic about the different spring sseems correct as long as the the ome are the same length. i have been running my lift with xreas for years and i do do a stupid fire road at least 1 a month. they have been holding up with no leaks.

My xreas is now taking its toll i think its sagging. just like any shock would. I was planning on a bigger lift down the road. so, i went with spacers and there wasnt really any options. other then ome at the time. i didnt see why i would toss my xreas right away so i beat on it and it took it.

how much money do you wanna spend???

what size tire do you plan on running??

Do you do any off roading, if so how much??

if you want 285/70/17 and go off roading i recomend a 1.25 body lift. Then i would get what ever shocks you can afford. tires are as expensive as the lift.

For tire size I don't really plan on going larger than 265/70R17 for starters but this will not be for a while.. I also only wanted to do a 2 in front lift and no more than 1 in in the rear. If I do it at all I will do it via springs not spacers.. As for what I have to spend its all how soon I want to do it.. If a waite a while I will have more.. if I do it by the summer which is what I am leaning toward I will have about 500 or so just fo the lift. That why I was looking into the toytec springs.. I do very little right off roading right now.. So I am just level out the truck for now but once my frined gets his LC back on the road we should be heading out once or twice a month if not more if time permits...lol 3 kids and going to school with a full time job.. time is on the short side... ;-)
