I was just wondering - does anyone know the part number or the specifications of the stock subwoofer in the JBL synthesis equipped 4Runners?

8 Inch DVC Sub - 90 watt peak - probably RMS's at 45, IF that - pretty pathetic.

Don't know the part number tho...

I was intending on replacing it with another shallow subwoofer, since my friend stupidly forgot I had a stock subwoofer after I installed my new 12's, and I'm quite sure blew it out completely. Looking at those specs, it's damn cheap to replace it with something much better.

Do you happen to know the ohms of the subwoofer as well?

I do not know the ohmage, but if you plan on replacing it, you're going to need a new amp anyway.

But wait, if you have two 12s already....?

Yeah, I know. I just figured since it blew out, I could get a real cheap kicker to just put in there. I'm quite sure the stock amp could run a new sub, no? I don't really want to run a new sub at full power, just want to replace the blown one.

I guess it could run it, but I doubt it wouldn't make much difference... the two 12s would over power any sub you put in there... I just think it's pointless to put a sub in there if you already have the other two...

Well, it might just be me, but I felt that when the stock sub was there, the high-end of the bass frequencies felt much more "surrounding" for some reason. It may just be me, but I guess everyone has an opinion to audio, eh?

Also, I had to turn on the LPF on the HU, to avoid the distortion of the stock sub, and it also kinda kills the surround sound of the entire car, so I just figured the shallow sub is very cheap, so I might as well replace it.

i think the stock sub is a dual voice....thats prob why it sounds fuller.

Did you ever find a replacement speaker? My sub is blown and I'm in need of a replacement. I don't really want to replace the entire system or get into addition of another amp. I thought that these speakers were pretty specific to the system and stock size replacements weren't possible (with adding an additional amp).

Does anyone have a source for this sub that might be significantly cheaper than the dealer?
