I am doing research right now and I realized something as I was conducting my research. I was researching stuff for the current generation 4runner (4th gen).

Currently I have a 3rd gen 4runner and anytime I wanted to look up something specific about my 3rd gen I could easily go into the handy 3rd gen sub-forum.

Now back to what I found, I am trying to research stuff about the 4th gen but there is no 4th gen sub-forum, so when I do searches I get information on all different generations. I would like a sub-forum for the 4th gen. I want to see whether or not I should stick with my 3rd gen or get a newer 4th gen. I think it will make these forums even better for current and future users.

If there is a 4th gen sub-forum please let me know where it is and I apologize. If not, who needs to be contacted in order to get one set up on here.

The "general discussions" section has been taken over by 4th gen owners, but it may be convenient to have one specifically for them. I heard talk of it staying like this until the 5th gen makes it's appearance, then use the General Discussions section for those, and drop the 4th gen down to their own section. I think it's staying the same for a while though.

That is basically right. We first had one forum and then we broke off the Classic and then the 3rd generation forum. The general disscussions are meant for the current generation. there are a few general 4Runner discussions here, but if we get something about a 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation models we move them.

So if you have a question about the 4th generation, this is the forum to do it.

:iagree: I understand and accept the moderators philosophy.

If when searching you scroll down and select only general discussion wouldn't that filter the results adequately?

I think the big advantage of a 4th gen would be to the moderators. Less moving of posts etc. Many new-comers place 3rd gen questions in 'general' not realizing the layout. If they had no choice but to select a generation prior to posting then the posters would get better, faster responses and the moderators would need to do less work.

I've been away for a while but I now have the 4runner back to myself since the wife is the new owner of a 2008 Wrangler X :D

I spent about three hours last week restoring the interior to "clean" condition and I caught the mod fever again.

When I start perusing T4R I forgot there was no 03-> forums and it actually took me a few minutes to figure it out where to go.

So for the new people finding this wonderful site.. YES there should be a subforum

(and maybe overall a vbulletin software upgrade to 3.6)

yeh

I don't want to step on anybodys toes. I thank everyone involved for the work they do.
But there's no logical arguement AGAINST having a separate forum UNLESS it's more work for them and they don't want that.
If that's the case, ok. But otherwise, c'mon, what's to disagree with. The fact is that owners of older 4's DO post in the GD area and we all have to wade through posts (both ways) that have no relevance to OUR vehicle. Sometimes interesting no doubt, but useful specific information? Not most of the time.

I'd also have to agree with you guys, Im just contributing to this thread to show support for the idea of creating another sub forum for the 4th gen. It would make it alot more organized and clear (especially to new members). The general discussion area should be left to well....general 4runner discussions that involve all 4runners.

It is probably a bit of work to create that sub forum though because wouldnt the threads need to be sorted through and moved into the new sub forum? I can understand if this is the reason for waiting.

We could even jump the gun a bit and create a 4th and 5th gen sub forum :)

I agree with others here that a 4th Gen Sub-Forum makes sense.

Hopefully, the forum software will get a much needed UPGRADE SOON. When that happens, that might be the logical time to create a 4th Gen Sub-Forum.

As we get closer to the intro of the 5th Gen 4Runner it might make sense to create a Sub-Forum for that model as well.
Some other automotive forums I use, create forums many months before new models go on sale.
That way people get used to using that forum and all the announcements, speculation, questions and general BS about the new model is contained where it belongs.
In the long run, their forums are more orderly and it is LESS WORK for the moderators trying to keep order and control chaos.

Just my .02

The old General Discussions sub-forum has just been renamed as the 4th Gen subforum and I've created a new General Discussions subforum. I've also added a new 5th gen subforum :D Please be patient while we slowly migrate some of the old threads to their new more appropriate category. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

Arrggghhh, more work for the moderators.....:cursin:

Hopefully, it will be less confusing. It will be awhile before we know much about the 5th generation though.

I think it would help the newbies if the name of the sub-forum also included the model years, such as "4th Gen T4Rs (2003-2009)". If you just got into 4Runners and don't know the history, it's hard to know which gen is the right one.
