4th Gen Transfer Case Problems - Possibly An Easy Fix

For anyone having problems with your transfer case (engaging/disengaging), check the fluid level. If your lucky it might be an easy fix.

After a dealer service I was having a lot of problems engaging/disengaging 4WD and when it engaged there was with a loud "thud." At over 90K (and more than its share of abuse) I though my 4Runner might be just showing signs of aging. But I checked the t-case fluid level, and about a cup of oil came out the fill hole! After draining the excess oil shifting 2WD-4WD-4Lo worked flawlessly.

I be honest, I am little confused at how the dealer could fill the t-case above the fill hole.

Transfer Case: If you need to roll this does it!

My 2004 4Runner's 4.7L Transfer Case is shot...I decided to try a temporary fix...this has been working for me like a charm...so what did I do? I turned my vehicle into a 2 wdr...till I can save my pennies...how did I do this...I removed the front axle and lock the center diff...and it works...this avoids the transfer case problem in the short run...in this mode you bypass the transfer case...and also the problems of driving in this mode for extended periods and on pavement are eliminated... since it's now a 2wdr vehicle...just saying....

Just Remember....Roc N Roll
