4th Gen Transmission / downshifting

Is there a way to program OUT the downshifting every time you touch the brake ?

No, not that I have ever seen.

- Downshifting while slowing and going down a hill is a 'feature'; grade-logic or something. I like that.
- The lack of a more free coasting mode while on level ground or slight grade sucks! I know my highway gas mileage would up if I didn't have to hold my foot on the gas to go downhill:bash:

If there was reprogramming to be found it's probably at another forum, more specifically the one that caters to the Tacoma-X. The Taco X is the street oriented, ricey truck that shares many drivetrain components with our 4Runners. They're actually pretty cool little trucks IMHO.

I don't think the X is a good example. The X is a six speed manual. you can try fj and taco's with the A750 trans. I guess the only solution for you is to drive it manually so it doesn't downshift. why does it bother you? or put it in N but you'll lose mpg

I too would be interested in trying to program this out. I cant tell you how much I hate slowing from cruising speed to like 10 mph for a 90 degree turn, make the turn and give it some gas and its incredibly jerky with power...it literally jerks you back in the seat and not in a good way. I dont buy the downshifting for hills logic either, if you are riding the brakes down a steep grade and DONT downshift manually then Im sorry, please relearn how to drive properly. My 3rd gen always seemed to be in the right gear after slowing down but this is probably my biggest pet peeve of my 4th gen.

Really? Good to know, I didn't realize that none were auto's. The few I have looked at were manuals but I thought for sure an auto would be an option... Thanks for the info:D

Wow I have to say I never noticed this happening in my '03... My father's 08 Tundra does this and it is EXTREMELY annoying. Maybe it's just less noticeable in mine. Definitely will be taking notice for this in my Runner later.
