4th Gen- V6 90K Maintenance

I apologize if this has been (and i'm sure it has) posted before. I searched, but came up with nothing solid.

Does the V6 have a timing chain or timing belt?

I'm at about 91k miles and I am planning on taking care of that and the transmission fluid flush.

My next question is...will I be risking my transmission by having it flushed? I'm coming over from an '01 Tacoma and was told that having the transmission flushed at 90K miles could lead to transmission failure if it had never been done before. Is this true with 4Runner's as well? If so, i'll just have the fluids changed and be done w/ it.

Thanks in advance.

Timing chain. Drain and fill the tranny the next couple of oil changes. Its better than a flush as that can break sediment loose.

Awesome, thanks a lot for the input. Do i even need to worry about changing the chain then? If not, I should keep an eye out for the serpentine, right?

Any other maintenance suggestions?

Well, never mind. I went up to the dealer today to get my oil changed and was told the transmission fluid never has to be changed and to not let anyone put any kind of fluid in there or it'll ruin it.

I remember reading that somewhere, but couldn't confirm it with anyone until today.

Thanks for the help anyways.

Mine's in for a 90k today, I also wanted to do an ATF change, and they said its a lifetime fill and never needs changing. I still dont feel comfortable with that. He said dependent on whether it had a dipstick or not it could be a lengthly procedure and had to be done within a 10degree temp range....

So no one here's changing their ATF??

I'm not, i've read some more threads about the fluid and a lot of guys agree not to mess with it.

I don't think anyone's had any issues with burning up their tranny.

Anyone else want to chime in about this?
