4th gen vs 5th gen 4Runner rear springs

Hey guys - been doing a lot of reading and research on the forum. It's been a great resource as I plan out my 4R build. I'm working with a dealer to locate the 4R I want, but not owning a 4R yet shouldn't keep me from planning out the first few mods!

Back to the purpose of the thread - I know the 4th gen and 5th gen 4Rs share quite a bit of their suspension components. I wanted to confirm whether the rear springs on the 5th gen have the same specs as those on the 4th gen (15mm x 360mm - 180lb/in).

I'm trying to use this information as the basis of comparison against the FJ rear springs (15mm x 375mm - ~190lb/in) to determine if FJ rear springs would actually provide any lift (and how much) if installed on the 5th gen.

very interested to know also, more for the stiffness than the lift.

would also like to know if any spring rate differences between SR5/Trail/Limited within 5th gen line.

Better yet, can someone who's replaced their 5th gen stock suspension...

take precise measurements of the stock rear springs? I'd be interested in the following:

diameter of coil stock (mm):
exterior diameter of coil spring (mm):
overall spring height - free length (mm):
# of coil turns:

As an example, I believe 4th gen stock rear springs measure 15mm (coil stock) x 115mm (exterior diameter of spring) x 360mm (free length) with 6 coil turns.

I agree 4RBob, regarding the FJ springs, a slight increase in firmness in the rear would be welcomed, in addition to the additional height.

FJ rear springs on 5th gen 4runner

Thanks to 4Rbob's info, just got my 2012 sr5 4x4's rear springs replace with the FJ rear springs. Got a set of FJ 4x4's rear springs on eBay for $100 and replace the stock springs, it fit real well, it gave me the lift that I wanted, it gave about 3/4" of lift which will compensate the sag from loaded with kids and gears.
It felt a little stiffer and still ride very comfortable. Very happy with the modification, once again thanks to 4RBob.
