4th Gen wheels on a 5th Gen - Done!

After deciding somebody had to be the one to try, and thanks to Harper7's input, I went ahead and bought tires and have put a set of 4th Gen Limited wheels on my 5th gen LE.

I was concerned about the backspace difference, but they wound up out just as far as the OEM 20's, and with 265/65-18s, there is no rubbing whatsoever. Probably could have gone with 265/70s. Might still try the Spidertrax and the next time an even wider tire, but I'm good for now..

I went with the LTX MS2s as I have several cross country road trips planned for the next two years and need a quality, primarily highway, tire. Nothing flashy, but it should get the job done.

Looks good. I considered them back when the wife was thinking of getting a limited for herself, I'm glad they turned out to be a good choice.

I like those wheels a lot. I've looked for a set of those but haven't really found anything. I've always wondered what they would look like on a 5th gen, so thanks for posting.

Lookin' good! Were your OEM tires the Geolandars?

I've had several sets of LTX tires and they've always been wonderful. That's what I'd like to have when it's time to replace my Limited's Geolandars.

I'm very interested in your opinion on the change in ride and handling w/ the LTX's. Much improvement in ride quality and did handling suffer much?

I fancy those wheels and considered it for my winter tires. However, there are very few being offered online.

dxntxn, yes, the OEMs were the Geolanders. If anything, the ride is actually a bit firmer now. I know that might be hard to believe, but that is how it feels. Handling is also a bit crisper, also.

I'm thinking that even though there is a bit more sidewall, the Michelins are just that much stiffer.

This is my 3rd set of LTXs, second set of them being MS2s, and they have all be a) absolutely great tires b) firm rides. First set went on my GF's 2000 4R Limited, and the ride stiffened up in it, same as when I put them on my 2005 GX 470, which was a Sport model so it had the KDSS and was a nice highway ride.

If you're going to pound the pavement, I'm not sure there is a better tire for a vehicle like ours.

Thanks Mark - I am a little surprised the ride firmed up even though the LTXs have pretty stiff sidewalls. Then there isn't any additional body roll? I almost didn't buy a 4Runner because of the body roll until I drove a Limited. I love how you can throw her into a corner and don't want to mess that up.

Please post up again after you've lived with the new setup for a while and let us know your impressions, change in mileage, etc. I like my Limited's wheels, but would love to be back in a set of LTXs.

I did a little light offroading this weekend in the Ouchita Nat'l Forest and she did pretty well for a city gal. :driving:
