4th Gen - WTF can't I remove the rear shock from lower mount?

4th Gen - Why can't I remove the rear shock from lower mount?

I'm doing the FJ\5100 swap on my 4th Gen and I'm stuck on the rear shock removal. The top bolt was seized so bad that it was twisted\bent the metal shaft so I had to cut it off. I removed the lower bolt from the shock mount and now I can't the the shock to slip off the bottom mount. The rubber bushing just stretches and it won't pop off. I've tried heat, spraying with PB blaster, and haven't had any luck. My next step it to cut it off. Suggestions are appreciated.

this^^ or cut it off. cut the side of the bushing with a cut off wheel then spread it apart with a wedge or pry bar. I had to cut every bolt on my dodge off the leaf spring bushing something about the bushing material adheres to the metal it's mounted to...

BFH it is. I tried a gear puller and all I did was fubar the threads on the lower mount. Going to be fun tapping those out.

BFH didn't work. Looks like I'm going to have to cut it off. I did get the threads fixed though. Hate getting beat up like this on such a simple job.

I just had this happen to me on my Sequoia last week. I feel your pain. I ended up cutting the sides of the lower bushing in half, pried as much rubber off as I could then made one small twist with some vise grips and it came right off. Good luck!

I got them off finally last week using a similar method. Once I was able to twist them with the vise grips I used a pry tool to push it off from the mount. Fortunately the driver side went much easier.
