I haven't been able to buy the tires yet, but in preperation I have Bilstein setup on the top perch, and I have a 2.5" body lift. I wouldn't get the 3" cause after putting mine on the wire to my fuel tank sending unit is tight. I don't know how you would get the 3" on there without lengthening those somehow. You will definitely have to chop the body mount, its a must. I haven't done mine yet but I have been crazy busy. After they are on you will have to drive around, turn tires and all that to find where they are rubbing. They will rub somewhere, so be prepared to modify a little bit. After that you can start to flex it a little and look for other area's. It's all plastic so it's not that difficult really.
Gears! you will need gears at some point with 35's, especially if you have the V6. You can drive around and get buy with the stock gearing, but you will not be overly happy until you put a set of 4.56 or 4.88's in it. I would suggest at least a rear locker at that point just so it's all done at once. Hope this helps you some. It's not terrible, just takes a little patience, trial and error, and not being scared to tackle what some people seem to think is hard to do. (It's really not that hard) Good luck! :guitar3:

I forgot to go back to this. Check out my build thread, 35's were easier than I thought.

From what I have read/researched, it's not a matter of fitting the 35's but rather giving them enough clearance under compression and flex. I'm working my way towards 35"s as well; still looking for affordable body mounts...

Yes, mine still rub slightly on full compression. I had to hammer the shit outta the pinch welds to stop that, and now the tires barely touch the liner as I pulled it forward instead of cutting it. I only have Bilsteins on top setting and the 2.5" body lift right now. Another half inch and I wouldn't touch a thing.
Also, my stock springs are sagging like crazy!

be ready to trim and trim again. I had them for quite a while now and springs just naturally sag. This will cause you to trim again and it depends on how you use your rig on when they sag. Your gonna end up trimming as much as you safely can to feel more comfortable wheeling you 4r. to give you an idea i will be trimming front foot wells as soon as i have a free weekend.

I was running the same as you for a while and I'm on my second set of fj springs. I just switched to some lift spindles so I don't have to worry about it anymore. But with my spindles it's gonna stuff even more then maxed out 5100's.

Gotcha. I'm thinking of switching to 6" FJ lift until this isn't my DD any more and I can SAS it. I'm also thinking of 63" chevy springs for the rear, but getting deaver long travel ones. I know a guy running them on his taco and after switching to them he can lift the rear tire 48" before the front tire finally starts coming up off the ground. Ride is good too.
