Well for starters I have been reading for hours its now 4:15 am and I havent found any hint on what the issue is.

It is a 2000 sr5 auto 2wd

What it is doing is running like total crap. It runs vary lean gives me a code for bad down stream o2 but I know thats not it. Fuel pressure reg is good new fuel filter good fuel pressure, clean MAF, working TPS, all 6 cylinders getting a good hot spark. It starts fine and thats it. From a cold start in late afternoon in the sun it acts like its -20 out and wont down shift when its in 1st with O/D off, after it gets hot it runs better. It revs slow in N about 6 to 7 seconds to 3500 and around there it sputters and when i try to give it the go peddle it drops down to 2000 rpm some times it makes it to 4000 and right at 4000 it has epic power and goes all the way up to red line no problem.

It does have the stock timing belt, that is on my plans for next month, could the belt have stretched enough where all the low end torque is gone by the way it hasnt skipped a tooth but i can check again. I am leaning to ecu wit it always running like new right at 4000rmp

Any ideas

and 147k miles im stumped :ybrick:

I believe I have heard of a bad ecu causing problems like this. You may want to search around some to confirm.

BTW, your description isn't very great.

Can you provide a play-by-play of what is wrong, leaving out comments like "it drives like it is -20 outside" - many of us live in CA,NV,UT,AZ ect and do not know what you mean. When most members see a thread with a difficult description they just move on. It is up the OP to provide clarity.

Sorry im not good at telling stuff.

start it up it starts and idles fine sometimes after startup it jumps around the rpms from 500 to 1000. If I try to drive it right away it just sputters and backfires out the intake after as long as 3 minutes it runs smoother. When I try to accelerate not much happens slowly builds some speed after 30 seconds or so it gets up to 3500 rpm. Sometimes at 3500 it bogs down and loses engine speed even though the throttle never closed any. When it does make it past 3500 right as the engine hits 4000 rpms it takes off all the way up to red line no problem. Just the other day when I hit a deep flooded intersection I got some water in the intake and the engine just had mad power at 3000. Besides that burst of power the rest of the time it runs lean. It has a new fuel filter, the fuel is at the right psi, the fuel regulator works, so i know its something electrical but as far as what I have now clue.

Are you sure the maf is clean? Did you clean it? Got a CEL? It's backfiring out of the intake??

I had something very similar on my 99. I got a check engine light but no exact code. I got basically mis-fire codes. My friend who is a Toyota mechanic studied this for hours, and finally after cleaning the MAF 2 times, he went to NAPA a got a re-man MAF and a new OEM up stream O2 and everything has run fine since. I know that most Toyota techs, and my friend as well, will tell you that all they ever did is clean the MAF. Well the do break from time to time. For 80.00 for the MAF, it would be money well spent. Be ready to replace the up stream O2 in about a week.

I hope this helps and good luck!

I got a misfire code every once and a while. Most of the time its a code for saying the o2 sensor is not working but it ran the same with a new one in so it cant be the o2 sensor at less my new one was bad to and I highly doubt that. I think my MAF is just shot. I have cleaned it and it did run a lot better after the second cleaning the revs made it past 2500. I just ordered one it will be here tomorrow.

I am definitely no expert but could it possibly be a clogged cat?

I considered that, my brother said the same thing, I think it might be one of the contributing problems. I broke to studs one trying to get the cat out so I gave up before I get fudged everything up.

Clogged/dirty injectors could cause your symptoms. Since you checked the fuel pressure already, the fuel pump's probably not the problem. The "running lean" code makes me think more injectors than electrical. Usually, except for an O2 sensor, electrical will just throw a miss code, not lean too.

It could be a variety of things, but I figured I'd throw out an idea.
