4wd badges on 96-98

It bothers me that the 99-02 guys get those cool 4wd badges on the hatch and the 96-98 guys get nothing. Have any of you early 3rd gen owners put the 4wd badges on your hatch, or done anything else to let the public know that your 4Runner is off-road ready?

Yeah it bothered me too...Not only that but you can't tell the difference (unless you own a Runner) what year they are by the badges on the back. Not to mention I've had a hell of a time trying to find new emblems that didn't cost over $300....

But from personal experience, the majority of people I know already think the 4Runners are 4WD.....
 
I know what you mean, when I had my 2wd, a lot of people thought it was a 4x4. Now that I do actually have 4wd, I want people to know it, lol. I guess its just a confirmation......like saying "Why yes, yes it is four wheel drive...."
 
Lol...Well I'm not sure how it is in Cali, but around where I live the majority(I'd say 90%) of the Runners are 4WD due to the winter time.....Even though mine came from Florida.....

To be honest, I was kinda shocked at the Runners capabilities. I remember one day last year, my buddys Ford Expedition crapped out and we called a tow truck to get him out. The tow truck(without any tow straps..lol) was too long to get in the right position to hook him up, so I decided to hook up my Runner with my tow straps. Easily pulled that big ass SUV with no problems...

Gotta love Toyota...

I have gold badging from my 99 available now-the 4Runner and SR5 badges.

Ironically the 4wd logo just sold and went to a 2nd gen.

Many of us have debadged. Just post up a feeler in classifieds if you want to stir the pot....

The cheesy gold badging was one of the few things I never really liked about my ride, but other folks paid extra for it when new.

Everyone has their own tastes.

Fortunately I live in a relatively quiet and honest neighborhood with hard working people. We try and watch out for each other, so I'm not too worried (looking for some wood to knock on). Plus I'm always outside working on the Runner, so they would have to be pretty damn brave to try something...

But yeah you're right...Probably the reason I didn't get one. LOL

I mostly need new gold badging for the rear 4Runner liftgate emblem (just above the license plate) and the front Toyota logo...
Logo up from is flaking, and the 4Runner emblem in the rear I thought I could buff out a little (didn't work just made it worse).
I don't think the 99-02 emblems will work on my 97....

The backs of the Canadian 3rd gens actually only have Toyota and 4Runner on them. They have SR5, SR5 V6, and Limited V6 to distinguish their models as well. Since all 3rd gens in Canada (I've yet to see a 2WD 3rd gen in Canada) then they don't bother putting the 4WD on it I guess. I could be wrong though, but I just never seen a Canadian 2WD 3rd gen. I think the 00-02's might have done away with the V6 badge too as the those years only had V6 versions in Canada. in 02 though, they had the Badlands edition so those ones say Badlands on the back. I really like the back of the US models better though cause I do like that 4WD badge.
The early 4th gens up here say 4WD on the side of the doors beside the SR5 though.
 
There are so many guys that aer debadging their trucks like I did. I wouldn't worry about it. It looks great IMO without the badges. Maybe you can go for the TRD 4WD decal on the side. That may look cool?
 
i think we have more 3rd generation mall runners than 4wheel drives in hawaii. left the 4wd badge on to represent.

I agree but the only PITA (pain in the a$$) is having to fill in those holes and repaint.

Hell, I'll probably have to repaint sometime soon, but I'd probably get the chrome badges over the gold that I have now. Gold was "bling bling" in 1997 but in 2009, not soooo much.
 
Ya, mine came with the Gold Package ($150 option) what a crock. I think that was also the reason I debadged mine.
