4wd mode won't engage

Tried to switch to 4wd while rolling at about 40mph last night......the green and yellow dash icon kept blinking,
I never got a steady green light like I have in the past. At one point it actually felt like I was in 4wd mode:confused: I went on and switch back to 2wd to play it safe. the differential lock was off the whole time btw.

I usually "test" 4wd mode about once a month, but I have let like 3 months past before I actually tried it last night. I want to do what I can before I take her to the dealer as a last resort...any suggestions? I have a great mechanic.

-Place it N and select 4HI, wait a few seconds. If that doesn't work...
-Place it D and roll ahead to 5mph or so and put it N then stop.
-Place in R and backup at 5-10mph and stop.

That should get it to go... I find it's all about loading and unloading the gears a bit.

Mine seems to change to 4WD fastest when coasting under 30 mph in a straight line. Turning the steering wheel puts stress on the system and it takes longer to make the change. Under normal circumstances, it takes about 4 seconds to change into or out of 4WD.

Also, the manual states that you need to drive at least 10 miles in 4WD mode each month to keep the gears lubricated.

Thanks mate! Worked like a charm!!!!
you are da Man:bowdown:

:bigok: Excellent!

Don't forget to excercise the Diff Lock too when you get on a little stretch of dirt road, unpaved driveway etc.

straight line, tapping the brakes a few times, putting in neutral or just plain stopping and starting are all the tricks I use to get it to engage.

All of which make a mockery of the claim of being able to change "on the fly". I've never had a 4wd system that is more picky about engaging and it can be a real PITA when you have to change quickly and dont have the luxury of going in a straight line or being able to change speed.

4wd not engaging?

Tried to engage 4wd today putting in neutral..waiting putting in park..then reverse..nothing. lights still blinking...
