4wd on my 03 4runner

i just got the truck and it snowed the next day its set to 4wd hi but when i was going though the snow the trac light would come on and it didnt seem like 4wd was engaged is there something else i have to do to get it in 4wd hi its the sport edition v8

If it is a V8 you are in 4x4 all the time, nothing else to do. Were the tires spinning in deep snow? If so the traction controll was trying to stop the spinning tires. Next time try locking the center diff and see what happens. With it locked you can hit the gas hardand spin the tires without the traction control kicking in. Just be sure to unlock the center diff when you are back on dry pavement.

No amount of skill can reduce the braking distance of your 4Runner in the snow as much as snow tires can.
