4wd or 2 wd

Guys

I live in Houston Tx. It never snows here (once every so many years). Although off roading sounds fun I probally wont being doing it. I have owned a few suv's but not a 4 wd. I'm about to order the sr5 v-8. I will use the 4 runner mostly for city driving and take some road trips pulling a ski boat. Although I think it would be cool to have the 4wd capability, I'm not sure it makes sense for my use. When I was talking to one of the sales reps yesterday about this, they said in Texas the 4wd takes a hit on resale value in this part of the country. There is also the increased fuel burn factor although it sounds like it might only be 1 mpg difference. I would appreciate any comments from the board.

that said, personally speaking 4wd vehicles has a much higher resale value... also at 1mpg? who cares. o yeah another thing, apparently v8 sales have gone down significantly due to the gas hike, so dealers are discounting them heavily... sounds like a great opportunity to get one while they're cheap.

We have covered this a thousdand times and I usually chime in every time. Let me first say my 2wd has a different rear end and the gearing is such that the engine revs less, getting better milege. Also, V8's 4WD are full time 4 wheel drive and you can never turn it off. My guess is you would get better than 1 MPG. Also if you take in price, fuel, insurance, re-sale value etc., you will fare better money wise with 2WD, that is according to intellichoice, not me.

On the other hand, once you make up your mind you can never change, unless you get another vehicle. A lot of people on this board regret getting 2WD. So go with the you feel comfortable in. If you live in Maine, you would want / need 4WD 99.9999999% of the time. Here in Atlanta the mix is about 80 / 20% in favor of 2WD. This summer I got stuck on a dirt road with snow in Medicine Bow, WY. I kind of wish I had 4WD then. I was able to get out of the snow. I still went on rough dirt rocky roads on my trip, but I avoided the snow. And yes, there was snow in the mountians in June. It even snowed on us in Yellowstone park on June 12th, just a few flakes. Go figure.

Just what I was looking for. Question for some of you savy guys. If the 4wd has the most resale value, it would make sense that they would be more popular. High demand= High value. Why then do the 4wd have the greatest rebates for 05? I did a search or the used market in my area (Houston) to see what the mix of vehicles was here. I would say it was 80 percent 2 wd.

Well if they have rebates on the 4wd, then it would make sense to get 4wd. I thought it was for the V8. If I was offered 4wd, for free or 1 /2 price, I would of jumped on it. I just got the bottom of the barrell cheap, it was that or another brand of SUV.
