4WD question... issue or not

I owned a 2007 SR5 and have owned a 2010 TE for about a month now. I understand the vibration in the 4W shift lever since it's connected to the transfer case. However, often when I try to shift between 4H and 2 I have to shift multiple times before it will actual shift and the light goes out. It's as though the lever doesn't always catch right the first time. It also shifts quite hard sometimes. Has anyone else experienced this? Just trying to see if it's normal or if I need to get to the dealer with this.

The other thing I notice is in 4H when driving slowly and turning hard, like into a parking space... the truck requires more gas and the wheels skip. Same question here... others experiencing this and is it normal?

Replies are much appreciated.

Thanks.

Normal operating in 4hi on a part time 4Wheel drive system operates exactly as you are describing with the wheels skipping pulling into a parking spot. So no problems there at all....As for the changing from 4h to 2wd..try shifting the lever and then leaving off the gas just a tad. I had the same issue i would shift on the fly and it wouldnt seem to go the light would just flash...as soon as i let off the gas it seemed that it kicked back into 2 wheel drive. Hope this helps!

All normal. Your '10 TE actually has taken a step backwards in terms of the t-case. Your '07 could be driven on pavement in 4hi but not the '10. It has no center diff and it's just like your '07 in 4hi w/ the center diff locked.

Thanks for the help

just wasn't used to this as my 2007 never experienced the skipping while in 4H and with the electronic switch to switch to 4H never experienced the stiffer shifting I do with the manual lever.

Sorry, all these 4wd questions lately, does anyone read the manual these days? Does anyone do research on what they are buying and what they are actually getting? I knew the 4wd system of the new 4R in and out before I even saw one on a lot.

This is why I dont by used cars :) ** Gee, I have 5k miles on my new 4R and it always is hard to turn into spaces, it has been in 4H since I bought it, any thoughts?**

Yeah, I want his 4R, LOL :rockthrow:

Your funny. I agree though.
Loaded gears dont want to un-mesh as easily. As mentioned, back off a bit and the TC will dis-engage. You can always try the old back up 10ft trick from yester year.

Ditto

I concur, but why should it be any different with a 4Runner or even this forum. A little "research" before buying anything or any service is always prudent.
