4wd Question

I recently purchased a 01 4Runner Limited with 183,000 miles. I'm new to Toyota, but I want to do this right. My question is: How do I properly engage in 4wd mode on my 4Runner? I've gotten it into 4wd, but it didn't go verily smoothly, so I'm sure there is a proper way of doing it. I'm excited about this purchase, so I'm looking forward into learning more! More questions to come.

If going into 4H you can shift will driving. Mine seems to shift the smoothest at about 10 mph. If going into 4L stop and put the truck in neutral then shift into 4L and put it back to drive.

You should have instructions on your visor.

But it usually takes a few seconds its not an instant engagement.
