4WD Question

Is there any problem mechanically for the 4Runner to back up in reverse gear while in the 4Lo mode with the center differential locked? I'm thinking about a situation when you're stuck in deep snow or mud and can't move forward.

(this is a hypothetical; I haven't driven into the ditch yet!)

Thanks,
JP

There shouldn't be , it should work the same as in forward to my knowledge. You have to test it for us.....lol:D

Just don't do it on dry pavement!

Locking the center diff when the road is dry is a bad idea, as it creates huge stress ("binding") on the drive train. Otherwise, if you're on dirt, snow or some relatively slippery surface, you should be fine.

And if you're not on a slippery surface, what are you locking the center diff for anyway?

Regards.
