4wd system

Looking at buying a 2001 limited. The seller says "will need actuator motor on transfer case to get the 4 wheel drive working." I'm wondering if the 4x4 is still functional (4hi & 4lo)...its just the 4wd mode (button on the shifter) that isn't working. Would 4hi & 4lo still work if the 4wd mode wasnt working? As far as I'm concerned the two systems are separate. I currently have a 2000 and don't think I have an actuator on my transfer case. Could anyone clarify? cheers.

If you buy it let me know. I just swapped out my transmission due to the milkshake, but the actuator is still good.

I'd crawl under it and make sure everything is connected first though.
