4wheel drive shifts hard

Hey i tried looking for some info on this couldnt find any if there is one could you link it in the chat

When im shifting to awd or 4L on my 2001 it sometimes doesnt engage right away or has a hard clunk when it happens im looking to see, out side of shifting it two or three time a week, if there is anything i can do. Example lube up a part or change one?

awd while driving

4lo 4hilocked in neutral

its just makes a hard clunk i want to know if there should be something i lube up. there are a few times it doesnt want to go in so ill go from n the reverse and it will go in

I would check all of the drivetrain fluids and replace if they haven't been done in awhile. Also, grease all of the drive shaft fittings and make sure they are not binding.

If everything is lubed and greased properly and it still clunks, inspect the mounts.

Anything beyond that is probably internal in the transfer case and beyond my pay grade.

You mean the 4wd engagement is hard right?

Because the 1-2 shift is Hard for every 3rd gen runner. You can avoid that by starting off in 2 instead.

I'd say keeping using it and it should get smoother, mine did yet that took more than a year of use. Luck. :cowboy:

All vehicles shift hard in 4LO if you're referring to the transmission.
