I wouldn't limit it to one brand. I've seen all brands of sliders do that on different vehicles. At the end of the day the vehicle's partial weight resting on the slider can/will cause some deflecting. Perhaps a thicker steel would help, but clearance is always a worry with sliders.

To avoid the issue without going to 4130 and having it heat treated ($$$$) one should probably just pony up the dough for .188" wall or thicker DOM. The .120-.125" stuff will work, but if you beat on it hard, it'll dimple. Problem is bending the thicker wall stuff is a little harder on equipment. I've bent .188" wall on my JD2 model 3 bender, but it wasn't happy about it. You really need to step up to a beefier bender model if you're going to do that heavy a wall regularly.

Ya, you just need a bigger bender.....or, one with thicker arms and pins.
For sure. As mentioned, I don't think these are a bad product. They are just too light/thin for hard use.
Next time around, I'll be building my own sliders with a mix of square tubing and .188" wall round tubing. Between my ARB front bumper and these sliders, I'm really done with the headaches of putting inadequate armor on my truck.

BAMF is so damn expensive, is my guess. $550 for DOM before shipping (which they estimate at about $150). $700...
4x is $402 out the door with the DOM w/ kickout upgrade.
Anyone know of anything cheaper than THAT?

Anyone know if 4xI has fixed the deflection issue and is this only on the HREW or is it also with the DOM? Does the square main tube make a difference? I'm about the pull the trigger on these.

I ordered a set (on sale now) of the DOM round main bar sliders, should be here today.
I want mine to be straight out vs tilted upward and that is much easier with the round vs square tubing. With the round tubing you can adjust the angle to whatever you want.
No plans for serious rock crawling - will use these more as a step to the roof rack.

I went with HREW and they are extremely solid. I'd rather damage or bend a slider than damage or bend my thin frame that I'm welding the slider to. Seems much easier to cut off a damaged slider and weld a new one on especially for $250. That was my weakest link analysis when I pulled the trigger on the HREW. Just curious, what deflection issue did 4XI have?

Some people have reported them deflecting enough to dent the rocker panels.

Oh WOW. I had not heard about that. That is definitely something worth considering. I would think you'd have to come down really hard on a rock to do that. Way harder than I'm willing to wheel my 4Runner at least.

I forgot about that video. I had watched several years ago when I was trying to decide which sliders to buy. Very Informative. There's some classic quotes from Adam in that video. "18 inches is a long way to fall........you just don't want to make a habit of that to start with." Haha. Agreed.

I've been beating the shit out of mine for 3 or 4 years and haven't had any issues with them.
