4x2 off-road action shots! post em up!

I don't know about you, but I would like to see more 4x2 action shots or shots taken out side of the mall parking lot on this forum. So, "let's get it on!"

It's a little hard to take action shots when you're flying solo, but these will have to do for now.

Hopefully we will be able to get a trail run setup soon to get some more pictures... Maybe Cleaveland National Forest or Big Bear. Hungry Valley is an option that is always on the table.

Well...about that... I had started the trip on some hard pack trails around Yucca Valley and was having a great time. I had aired down a little, but did not realize that I was heading for a deep sandy wash. By the time I hit the sand it was too late to air-down any more. I just had to keep on moving. In the end I had to be towed out by a passing 4x4.

My 08 4Runner is the first non 4x4 I have bought. and since I still have my trusty 82 Bronco 4x4 I thought this time lets get a 2wd truck.

So how does the 2 wheel drive 4Runners work in off roading?

I have not done any serious off-roading just yet. My attention has been focused on the fire trails around my house. I have gone over some pretty good sized (for me) rocks and have been ok...and all on the stock Bridgestone Dueler H/Ts. I can't wait to see what this thing can do when I get some A/T tires.

Gotcha... Unless you're driving excess 35-40mph plus just go for for the 'airdown'. Probably 18-20psi with those tires.

Sustained 40mph+ with very low pressure raises two concerns: 1) Squishy handling and all that goes with it. 2) If you ran long enough tire heat build-up may become an issue. With the limited amount of sand driving I have done I say just be aware of the different handling and air-down... Rhode Island beaches (many years ago) is what I am familiar with. It's been so long that, truthfully, those memories are a bit foggy:bash:

About the tire pressure item. When we picked up the new 4Runner the Dealers service Dept. had dropped the tire pressures down so as to improve the ride. I quickly noticed the slowness of the stearing wheel responce and the general poor handling.

Nice to have a good compressor and a accurate tire pressure gauge to get thing right.

Unless you bought your 4runner in the middle of the Sahara Desert, I don't see why the dealer would lower your air pressure. That kind of action seem to be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Ive done off roading a few times and have gotten stock twice but work my self out both times. Definitely don't go in bad mud but as for semi soft ground I've done some drifting and burnouts and off roading and had a blast. You just don't want to do anything to serious or you will probably get stuck like I did .

Woke up 8AM Saturday morning craving for some crab and ended up taking an impromptu trip to Castaic Lake last weekend with the family and decided to take Lake Hughes Dr. all the way and ended up in California City...

Took some side trails to get a better view of the some areas...not even sure if I was allowed to enter some of the trails as there were no posted signs indicating that I shouldn't but gates were open and I had my Adventure Pass. Because we weren't sure of the trails we took we decided to take it back to the main road...some pics. Not really major off-roading but some nice views nonetheless.

Found this weird sculpture in the middle of no-where

I must admit...owning my runner has been the best fun and it definitely brought my family together..hope to have more impromptu trips in the future with no maps or GPS but just an adventurous nature to take along...ooh and some recovery gear, water and other good stuff :driving:
