4x4 light

Im sorry I dont mean to sound like an ass
but I find it kind of funny how much effort was put into letting this guy know that all he had to do was change a lightbulb.

Albeit, we werent sure if it was the diff or not.

I really didn't think this thread would be this long either. But I was unsure of how the 4wd system worked on these 4runners. I'm use to my 72 Jimmy there is no light to let you know it's in 4wd and I wasn't sure if the 4runner was the same way. I guess I'm the F. N. G. to the T4R world. :D

Well while I was changing the oil today I noticed there was a connector from the front diff that was not connected but I cant seem to find out where it connects to but I'm pretty sure this is what could be the problem. I was wondering if anybody could show me where it connects to via pic. Oh yea its a 1994 I don't know if that makes a difference.

yes that would cause the dash light to not work. the connector you noticed is it the male attached to the diff or the female attached to a wire?

the wire that connects to the diff comes out of the wire loom on the top of the engine near the distributor cap, then drops straight down to the diff. there is another wire taped to it that goes to the oil pressure sending unit i think. both wires have a connector halfway down. maybe you are missing the second half of the wire

Yea I think I'm missing the other end because I looked all over for the connector but couldn't find it anywhere. Atleast I found the problem now to get it fixed
Thanks for all the help.

how to remove the speedo cable?

since this thread got so long I thought I'd jump in and ask this.

I'have had the gauge cluster out but not all the way (due to speedo cable). I may replace all my dash lights one day soon and wanted to know how to remove the speedo cable the best way?

thanks

you just have to reach around and there is a clip on the end of the cable (the big plastic piece) just squeeze it it should pop off
