I think because it was the "4x4 of the Year" comparison and not the "SUV of the Year" comparison.

There aren't really many other decent 4x4 SUVs that could compare with the body-on-frame 4runner.

The article incorrectly states that the new 4R requires premium fuel. It only requires Regular Unleaded (87 or higher).

Unlike the '03-'09 4Runner, this new SUV no longer has the gas-guzzling V-8 option (even though it requires premium fuel)...

It had more to do with their guidelines for consideration. There were no other significant changes to any SUVs that had adequate ground clearance. They only test "new" or "majorly updated" vehicles each year.

Man, they tore the new 4runner a new arsehole too. It came in dead last of the 3. Oddly, they said it sucked in the sand but then it actually scored the highest in the sand.

In Colorado regular is 85. Why is that? Is it bad for the truck?

Up at our altitude 85 is fine as our engines make a tad less hp up so it doesn't hurt.

I saw another review a while back that that had the top ten 4x4's you could by new and the 4runner was number 2 Raptor was number 3, guess thats thing thing with reviews though. Just depends on who's doing them. Also I wouldn't be mad if the 4runner came with Fox shocks, just sayin.

I know it was stock vs stock, but come on - they should have put the same type tires on each vehicle. The dodge had KO's and the 4Runner had the stock highway tires!! No chance...

FWIW, I sold my 6.2L Raptor to get my TE; Raptor was great but also had all the expected Ford quality issues (A/C blowing hot air for example). Ford quality still isn't job #1 in my experience, and so no more Fords in my garage and/or driveway either.

First thing I saw were the difference in tires... Huge difference

But whatever this article or any other article says, I still love my truck. It's just one writers opinion
