4X4 swap

So, i am doing a 2WD-4WD conversion, and I'm doing some research on what transmission i could use. i have narrowed it down that I'm using one from my year (2000) however what i have not been able to find is if there is a difference in length of input shaft for an auto trans from a 2.7l and one from a 3.4l.

I have a 2.7L auto.
the question:

Could i use an auto 4WD transmission from a 3.4L and replace the bell housing to mount to my 2.7L with no input shaft modification??? thanks!

Yes you can!

The input is not done via an input shaft, they torque converter bolts to the flex plate, that is your input. The output shafts are different from 2 and 4 2wd, as are the oilpans. A340E = 2wd, A340F =4wd.

Right. So the torque converters are the same on both models? So if I find a trans and transfer case for sale it doesn't matter what engine it was behind correct?

Yes, I'm pretty sure the bell housings are the major difference. I don't know why the pans are different, maybe to accommodate the front driveshaft.

Sell your 2WD and buy a 4WD....they are cheap and it will be assembled correctly.... by the Toyota factory.

I've been told this many times and I'm not doing that. I've put work into this truck, and I know the service history, there is no leaks and I know what oil has been put in since I know the original owner. I was asking simply because I want to do the work. I have already decided man.

Yeah. I've picked his brain a bit about it, that is actually the reason for this post because I saw that he had to cut down the input shaft on the manual transmission. So I was just wondering.
