5.8 Earthquake - East Coast

Apparently the world is coming to an end!

So much for getting my FTA (Federal Tuition Assistance) issue resolved so that I can start class today. Yah, Thanks PA for running out of money. Due to a little 'shaking' every god damn government phone is off the hook.

This thing actually woke me up out of a dead sleep.... At first I thought there was a dog doing crazy on the bed, with full out foot to head scratching going on. I look around to find two dogs staring at me like WTF?! :eek:

I live in the land of Earth Quakes and they still scare the CRAP out of me... Had a customer in the shop one time, walls stated to tremble... I almost knocked him down to get him out of my way so I could get clear of the shop... Everybody looked at me and laughed.. I didnt think it was funny
 
5.9 magnitude earthquake actually I'm in VA and the epicenter of the quake was just 12 miles away from me everythings good though I hope every is ok
 
Sitting outside my office south of Newport News at the moment. Felt a little shaking but not too much. No ripples in the Chesapeake.

I was on the phone with my buddy who works for State Farm in Richmond. He told me his computer went shaken off his desk. Then he told me he had to go, for the rest of the month would be busy for him.
 
An earthquake in this area is rare.. one of this magnitude is VERY rare.. I'm too stuck on the Little League World Series to turn the news on though. I'll turn it on in time for the actual news at 5, I'm sure someone is yelling about some Doomsday prophecy.
 
People in Columbus, OH felt it.

I was sitting at a stop light in my 4runner and felt and saw my hood move left right, then it did it again.

Thought it was my new suspension or something settling it or something weird. I grabbed the wheel and tried to shake back and forth in the cab to recreate it and it wouldn't do it.

Got back to work and saw it all over the internet. Crazy as hell, never felt one before.
 
The last time they saw an earthquake this large was in 1897. It doesn't happen very often, but it DOES happen. So if you hear people crying that it's the end of the world, ask them if it was the end of the world in 1897 as well!

So far, I've read there are no reports of injury. Hopefully it stays that way =)
 
I love earthquakes. We always get them here and I don't mind them. Makes me laugh for all the people who wouldn't move out west because of the earthquakes. I know my family in New York are probably thinking that.

Yeah I was about to turn 3 when that quake hit. I still remember where I was and what was happening when the quake hit. Me and my two brothers were with the babysitter. She nearly **** a brick and my parents weren't too stoked at the time either.
 
I felt it for a good 5-10secs. I've never been in one and thought I might be getting dizzy / sick or something and then realized the plant hangers on the porch were swinging without a breeze. I couldn't imagine that was what it was being in Virginia Beach but sure enough it was all over the news a few moments later.
 
I was in Fairfax VA at a construction site on George Mason University campus. I was trying to level up my total station when the ground started vibrating. I thought it was the guy operating the drum roller until I saw workers running from the adjacent building.

We went home early.:biggrin2:
 
I was working on a vacuum chamber at work when this happened, i was pumping it down and all of a sudden the digital gauge started going wild saying that my chamber was down at some unbelievable amount of vacuum, then shot back up to atmosphere. It was really wierd though because that spike happened before i felt the tremble.

I hate to cave into all this 2012 end of the world stuff but up here in Mass we rarely get ANY kind of natural disasters besides a TON of snow..This year alone a tornado that ripped a ton of towns apart and now an earth quake?

....Im suiting up my 4R for the worst ;)
