If you put your truck in Drive it is a 5 speed auto. If you push it to the left from drive it puts you in S4, essentially turning off the overdrive and ECO mode.

My 4R is my fifth Toyota and very first automatic ever. Always drove sticks before except work trucks. I'm not disappointed with the acceleration at all. If I stomp on the peddle it gets up and goes. Was on the highway yesterday and needed to pass a big truck. Hit the peddle pretty hard and it downshifted at least two gears and I was around that rig in seconds. Very pleased with my 4runner. I might add that accelerating from a dead stop is just fine also. Considering the massive weight of this thing.

I have a new 2018 and have been averaging 19mpg overall, driving in a moderate fashion.
Also, am new to the forum, but can't start a new thread yet. So at the risk of veering off-topic a bit, a related question on throttle response/drivability (which I've not been able to find anywhere on this forum).
One annoying thing I've noticed is that when the engine RPMs fall to 1,000 (on trailing/off-throttle), the engine bumps up to 1,500 RPM by itself, without me touching the throttle! Dealer says "no, its just down shifting". I call BS because it also happens when in manual mode - and in any gear. Worse, you can get into a "rinse and repeat" cycle when using the cruise control at moderate speeds. I think it might be an emissions thing, but not the kind of refinement I expect from Toyota.
