5 spd Highlander/SE on ebay

Not mine but check it out, a black '99 4x4 highlander/SE with the rear locker AND 5 spd tranny: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280101940608

What makes this special is this was the first year of the highlander/SE trim level, and the last year you could get the rear locker in combination with the 5spd tranny. Yes you could get the 5spd tranny in 2000 and yes you could get the rear locker in 2000 but no you could not have them both in 2000 and you couldn't get either after 2000. I'm pretty sure the '00 Highlander/SEs were all automatic and in fact until I saw this '99 I wasn't sure a 5spd w/rr locker '99 Highlander/SE even existed. Note the questions from the bidders asking if someone swapped in a 5 spd :D

The 4.30 rear end that comes with the rear locker in combination with the 3.9? ratio of the 5spd's 1st gear results in the best crawl ratio of any stock T4R ever built. So to me this is the ultimate 4Runner - I hope a local T4R.ORG member buys it (it's in Gainesville)

Why are you calling this "highlander"?

Its obviously a 4runner

There were some 4Runners that were a special highlander package --- nothing related to the current highlander SUV that is a step below the T4R.

Ok that makes sense now, thanks.

*Ahem*

'99-'00 Runners had what was called the Highlander package but their is no badging that says so. In '01 Toyota introduced the smaller SUV called the Highlander and the Runners had what was referred to as the Sport Package and then in '02 it actually was called the Sport Edition with badging and the faux front skidplate.

Reiteration of what has already been stated.

that is a steal my friends

I would guesstimate that vehicle would sell for $12-$14K easy out here in Colorado. Probably quite a bit more at a Toyota dealership.

The buyer got a heck of a deal for a Sport hood look that some favor. Low miles for a Runner.

Thanks for the point to GatorGreg.

I was actually about to buy one out in Denver yesterday--a '99 with 95k miles, black, Highlander package, locker, sunroof--for $12k. But found a good deal locally.

Seems like all of the awesome deals are out East. :D

5 speeds were available on the SEs in '00 and diff locks too since my friend has one.

Here's one for sale in Colorado......

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...0&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=200

Here's a Limited w/Sport hood and diff lock

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...25&transmission=&doors=&max_price=&cardist=91

FYI for those interested:

The first one is in New Mexico. It has been in an accident. It says "moderate to severe damage." on the carfax. Also has a "potential odo rollback" but I think someone just mistyped the odo reading when reporting.

The second one has no reported accidents, but has had 4 owners. (maybe 3). But it's weird how it comes with the body moldings all painted green instead of the two-tone that the limiteds usually come with. Option? Or accident/repaint?

Iron, is your friend's '00 with the factory diff lock a 5spd or an auto? The '00 specs I printed off from top4runners seems to indicate that you could only get the diff lock in '00 as an option on the SE/Highlander or Limited but only in conjunction with the auto tranny? And on the '99 specs I printed it seems to say the sport package with diff lock is only optional with the auto trannys, yet the one in this ad says it has both although I can't really see the switch in the pics. Now I'm totally confused :D Does anyone have a 5spd SE/Highlander with the factory rear diff lcok?

My friend's '00 was one of the first '00 models shipped and I think his is a rare "mistake" since he does have the 5 speed.

There's quite a few diff locked '99 5 spd SEs out there but they aren't common.
